  • Customize and extend the jBPM tools to integrate them into your existing solution/technology architecture
  • Understand the core components of jBPM, including topics such as KIE API, RuntimeManager, KieSession, and KieBase
  • Follow real-world illustrations that will help you achieve objectives using screenshots and code snippets

Who This Book Is For

If you are a designer or developer who wants to build and operate business process-centric applications, then this book is for you. Knowledge of the basic concepts of application development in Java will be helpful in following the concepts covered in the book, but is not necessary.

What You Will Learn

  • Understand the jBPM tool stack and business process management systems, the standards, patterns, and use cases
  • Build your first BPM application using the jBPM tool stack
  • Monitor and manage the daily operations of business process-centric applications
  • Get a detailed explanation of all the BPMN constructs supported by jBPM
  • Understand the core architecture of jBPM
  • Learn about the extension points and pluggable mechanisms which would help you to extend jBPM core
  • Enhance your application with business process management functionalities by integrating jBPM into your existing application portfolio
  • Configure the jBPM-based application to meet the non-functional requirements in production
  • Integrate jBPM to the JEE, SOA, and EDA environments to use its capabilities

In Detail

This book provides a complete understanding of the jBPM technology stack. It starts with an introduction to the world of business process management systems, the problem domain addressed by jBPM, explores the main use cases that can be addressed by business process management systems, and illustrates the main design patterns. It takes you through the details of the architecture and available out-of-the-box provisions for customizing, extending, and integrating the features of jBPM to meet the requirements of your application. Moreover, this book will empower you with the knowledge to integrate jBPM with enterprise architecture, debug through the source code of jBPM, and utilize the flexibility provided by a heavily modular system. Finally, it introduces you to the provisions available for a jBPM-based application to put the non-functional characteristics of the system, which are of great importance when we deploy our application in production. The book helps you in putting the knowledge at work by providing you with a lot of ready to use examples, both basic and advanced ones.

An excellent book for developers trying to learn BPMN2-driven applications in jBPM6 By Davide Sottara Short version:An excellent book for developers trying to learn BPMN2-driven applications based on jBPM6.It walks the readers through the principles of BPMN2, the authoring tools, the architecture of the runtime platform and its integration patterns, all with simple and focused examples. The material is organized in a clear and incremental way and encourages the reader to practice with code and models.Longer version:First of all, this is a book for developers approaching Business Process driven applications and jBPM for the first time.It is an excellent guide that will take you from a simple "hello world" application to an insight into large scale, production-ready architectures. In the process, the book describes the authoring tools integrated with jBPM and its underlying process management and execution architecture. It complements the online KIE and jBPM documentation nicely, providing a more pragmatic perspective. Given the substantial changes between the 5.x and 6.x architecture, is valuable to assist users trying to learn or transition to the new model.More in detail:Chapter 1 provides an overview of BPMN2 and its use in applications running on the KIE platform.Chapter 2 walks the reader through a "hello world" application.Chapter 3 and 4 describe the authoring and management tools.Chapter 5 provides an essential introduction to BPMN2.Chapter 6 and 7 describe the KIE and jBPM internal architecture.Chapter 8 and 9 focus on integration patterns for enterprise-level applications. As a side note, if you are trying to learn BPMN2, if you are interested in the best design and modelling patterns for a specific business domain or if you are a seasoned BP expert trying to build complex large scale applications, this is probably not the best book for you.

Clear and Comprehensive By Marco Stefanizzi I've just gone through the book and here are my thoughts:The book starts giving an overview of the BPM environment introducing in the big picture of the business logic platform. Most of these concepts were familiar to me. Following up the book provides a first overview of the BPM environment and starts building a first jBPM application using the Eclipse tool stack.Eclipse is not my favorite process editing tool, however next chapter (chapter 4) comes to rescue with a deep description of the Process Designer web based tool.I was glad to reach this point smoothly.Once completed the first samples, the book moves to the core architecture covering the core jBPM modules (e.g. human task service, persistence, auditing, and configuration). I was particularly glad that all these information was introduced smoothly and not as first chapter of the book.Next the book continues desribing how to customize the jBPM engine and, most important, how to integrate the jBPM environment with Java EE through SOAP, REST, or JMS either as a client or a server. Finally the last chapter is devoted to performance tuning and an interesting appendix as quick reference for jBPM constructs.I'm pretty satisfied with this book and I'd highy recommend it to anyone interested in applied jBPM technology to Java EE stack.

This book has a good amount of coverage with commands and examples. Also sometimes going deep about internals and the relationship between components so that users can have confidence in their application development.Highlights:- Various workbench git use cases- Explanation of various KIE APIs including internal insights- Detailed Gateway usages
