By Chris Johnson "The difference between where you are now and where you want to be is contained wholly between your ears."This book is an entertaining, lighthearted read chock-full of valuable lessons that apply to any pursuit of a profession. Boyd Dixon gives us the impression of a lost character slowly coming to realize that they have a certain passion through sheer discovery and exploration. This brief yet fundamentally motivating work comes from one who has lacked drive but then obtained drive, who has lacked passion but then found passion, who was unsuccessful but then realized success. Not only does this book tell a tale, not only does it give fantastic technical drumming advice, but it is also a means of motivation and encouragement for anyone to pursue what they love, and if a person has not found a love yet, to keep searching. I would recommend this book to any young person who is struggling to find what defines them or stuck trying to find something that makes them happy.
2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A great read! By McElroy I wish I had read this a long time ago! There are so many good points. Just sitting behind the drums and performing is probably only 15 or 20 percent of the job. The rest of the time is spent doing the business end of it and don't forget to "hang out" or no one will know you exist.

But what you will find is the author's very uplifting and encouraging perspectives about how he not immediately, but eventually came to love and embrace playing drums as a musical instrument. His observations and recommendations are terrific and it's obvious that he's a great player and outstanding teacher. The wisdom that he provides is priceless and timeless. I believe that this book provides a great foundation for any drummer to refer to over and over again.
