Good start on a new series (KU borrow) By Kindle Customer The build-up on this was a little slow, but that's how it goes with a new series, laying all the groundwork. The characters were likeable, and it was great to see an abused woman take back her life in a realistic way (step by step, taking classes). I struggled with my rating on this, trying to decide between a 3.5-4. The story relies on a lot of internal monologues, while I prefer my stories to be dialogue heavy. That's just personal preference, and I still enjoyed the hell out of it, so I settled on 4 stars. Really, any book that includes a sweet bear napping in a hammock, a woman coming into her own and taking charge of her happiness after years of abuse, and a sweet half-naked man rebuilding after tragedy, it's worth a read. Just to clarify, Russ isn't always half-naked, but that's how I prefer to picture him ' I'm interested to read about Ian and Taylor (yep, picturing them half-naked, too!), and am hoping to see how Russ and Dani have progressed through their stories. Until then, there's a dragon series that's supposed to be complete to tide me over, so I think I'll give that a shot '*I'm adding to this a bit after submitting my original review because something was missing, and I just couldn't put my finger on what it was until a few days later. One of the best things about this story was Russ. He didn't just get all crazy protective over the damsel in distress, but gave her the tools to protect herself. That's a rarity in this genre, and it put him a step above the others in my eyes.

She has her own home and is trying to enjoy her independence but her ex is still causing issues for her. She is way out in the country and has a lot of solitude. One of the happiest parts of her new home is that she has made friends with a bear. The bear takes a nap in her hammock and then gets a good home-cooked meal from Daniela every day.One day, her neighbor Russ, sees her ex harassing her and gets involved. It is the beginning of a new start for both of them. He is a widower and retired from the military and has been alone since his wife died two years ago. They have a very sweet romance and he gives her confidence again. Her ex was always on her about her weight. The one thing she does miss is her bear. He stops coming by. Russ keeps a secret from her as to where her bear has gone.I enjoyed the story very much. Daniela fits the profile of an abused spouse very well. The abuser gets them when they are young and keeps them isolated from others. They use verbal abuse to keep their self-esteem low and prevent them from thinking they deserve more. The author also mentions how neighbors tend to ignore the issue and not want to get involved. In this case, it took a tragic event to move her to action. I think it is great that the author took the time to really describe the abuse as it may make a reader more aware of signs around them. Maybe they can be the rare person to step in and try to help a victim. It resonated with me as I had a friend reveal just this week that they are the victim of domestic violence.Russ is a very attractive character. He was deeply committed to his wife and is motivated to help others. It is why he becomes involved in teaching self-defense to those in need after retiring from the military. He makes Daniela feel safe again and that is very important for someone who has been abused for so long. Their desire for another is evident and makes a great deal of sense based on the author's description of them. I also like how the author interweaves her family, her boss, and his friends into the storyline. You really feel a connection.I received a copy in return for a honest review

The Right to Bear Arms is the first book of the Wild Operatives Series by Vivienne Savage and it totally rocks! This captivating series has now become my new guilty pleasure and the two talented authors that make up the Vivienne Savage dynamic duo writing team have captured my heart. This story is exceptionally well written and well edited. It has a little bit of everything so I have no qualms at all recommending it to anyone that loves paranormal romance. It's filled to the brim with danger, drama and dreamy love. And of course, let's not forget the handsome, hot, hunky shifters ! The characters are engaging, charming and well developed. The narrative is exceptionally well written in the first person with alternating his and her points of view. My favorite! The dialogue is well executed and flows beautifully. What didn't I like about this book? Not a darn thing! I loved it!Beautiful, curvaceous and now divorced Daniela Reyes has decided that a new start in a new home in a new town is exactly what she needs to recover from her abusive marriage. It's a real shame her ex-husband didn't get the memo. He seems determined to make her life a living hell. I guess it's a good thing that her new home comes complete with a new guardian black bear who seems perfectly content to lounge in her backyard hammock and become her new protector. Obviously, no one ever told Daniela to never feed a bear! He'll become yours for life! Oh, and let's not forget her brand new handsome, army vet neighbor who's as sweet and cuddly as a bear! Coincidence? I think not! Beautiful Latino divorcee-check! Handsome army vet bear shifter-check! Hateful, horrible ex-husband-check! Danger, drama and a bear of a secret-check! Heated attraction, sweet love and dreamy sex-you bet! That and a whole lot more! I can hardly wait to read Book Two of this series. Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!
