Abitika grew up with a talent for changing the way people think. When she used that talent on behalf of her sister, it gained her five years of confinement. The Citadel has been checking Jrinka colony for years, and Abitika was one of the most promising sightings. They pry her out of her confinement and send her to Morganti in the nick of time. Recovering from her incarceration, Bits is shocked to find out that her talent for pheromonal manipulation also extends to her mind. Turnari is the only one willing to take the risk of training the new specialist and teaching her what her mind was capable of. They have a true meeting of the minds but they both want more.

There were places where it felt like chunks were missing--and not just because they moved forward hunks of time without any nod to the reader (literally, in one place between one para and the next, it moved days with nothing). It was also VERY short on plot. At the beginning, she had issues because of a teen 'prank' gone wrong that nearly got her slowly starved to death. While she was rescued and her physical condition played a large part in the rest of the book, SHE actually played no part in what happened after and no mention of it came up after her rescue (other than aforementioned recovery). Her first assignment, she almost 'addicts' her partner and her lie to cover it up becomes the basis for the fastest switch to a romance I've ever read. It made it seem like the author wasn't sure whether to write a 'straight' scifi or a romance, so she tried to do both in too short a space (bad scifi pun, I know). That said, it had pretty good writing, which includes the editing. I think I only found a couple of spots where it bothered me--a nice change of pace for me, as I'm picky about editing.I did like the premise, too, which was an empath with the ability to 'program' her cellular matter (skin, blood, tears, sweat, etc.) to change a person's mood/personality toward a desired emotion. The few places it was showcased were pretty awesome. Not enough different moods were shown and no real sense of what happened after she left the scene were the only drawbacks on this subject. To sum up, I may pick up some of her work in the future, but unless she starts bundling the FIFTY (yes, you read that right--a big five-oh) shorts in this series (which doesn't include the related precursor series) into something more manageable, I probably won't pick up the backlist.

Liquid Compassion is a great addition, with a lot of old friends from the Sector Guard making an appearance. Bits has a talent were she can manipulate emotions with contact as well as empathy and a telepath. She ran into some trouble on her home world and was recruited by the Citadel and take to SG Base Morganti. Her health in jepordy she is put in the care of Dr Effin (SG book 7). Fixer and her twin girls (SG book1), design her a suit to enhance her ability. She begins training under Turnari, a Dhemon, and is the Administrator of Citadel Morganti. Her first mission has her engaged to Tunari. Her second mission with Tunari and Seer and Order (SG book 4) nearly gets her killed. Reset and Mist (SG book 6) have to put her back togeter. Tunari has been a support character in a few books so nice that he finds his mate. A fun fast read.

By RoloPoloBookBlog The Bronze Blade by Elizabeth Hunter(Series: An Elemental World Novella)Source: PurchaseRating: 5/5 starsEvery time I sit down to read a new offering by Elizabeth Hunter I tell myself:“You will not be overwhelmed by the awesome this time!” and “You will NOT be left speechless yet again!” And every damn time including this one, I am overwhelmed by the awesome and left speechless and with my husband telling me “That’s what you get for thinking.” The Bronze Blade is proof positive the Elizabeth Hunter doesn’t just bring the awesome, she unleashes it on us all.Understand this dear reader; my expectations for this book were extremely and bordering on unreasonably high. This is the story I have been waiting for since the moment I fell in love with Tenzin in the first Elemental Mysteries book, A Hidden Fire. There is just something about her that grabbed my attention, my affection and, my respect (YES, all of this for a FICTIONAL character!) and wouldn’t let go. Tenzin is fierce, loyal, daunting, loving (believe it or not), extremely intelligent, mouthy, cunning and flat-out scary. Her very presence in every Elemental Mysteries read has been a portent for danger, mayhem and, one more than one occasion, a massacre. She is lethal and dangerous but never, ever without cause and honor. She is ancient and strong and to understand how this cold and very calculating woman became this way has remained a mystery until now.The Bronze Blade is not an easy read nor is it a light and fluffy story meant to warm your heart. The Bronze Blade is Tenzin’s battle to become who she is; that is, her journey to becoming Tenzin. Her origin is initially very normal and very common and a part of a very, very ancient time. In many respects, Tenzin was never meant to lead an extraordinary life but then one day, the vampires came. Believe me when I tell you, Tenzin and her personality as we know it in the Elemental Mysteries world is something that was forged in death, despair, destruction, violence and anger. Her choices were taken from her, her body violated in so many foul and disgusting ways and her mind was nearly lost right up until the moment she chose to live and become something more. That moment and those that follow are bloody and horrifying as well as being completely justified and satisfying. Tenzin’s story explains absolutely everything that we know (and LOVE!) about her. Do not mistake The Bronze Blade for a simple backstory/origin story simply because it is a novella. The Bronze Blade is the building of a warrior and every question I have ever had about Tenzin is answered. Hunter strips this fierce warrior down to her bare bones and then creates a most haunting and terrifying tale that ends with me being overwhelmed by the awesome and left completely effing speechless. The Bottom Line: Hunter has long said that Tenzin’s story would not be an easy story to read nor to write. To a degree I understood that and now that I have read Tenzin’s story, I completely understand. The Bronze Blade is almost pure darkness and in many respects the revealing of pure evil. Tenzin, a character I adore and will forever love is forged from that darkness and evil yet she comes out gloriously on the other side – truly, a phoenix rising. As a mere a reader, I now know what it is to have this story in my head and I cannot imagine having had it rattling around in my brain for as long as it has been in Hunter’s head. To get this out and on to paper must have been a tremendous relief and I am very grateful to finally get to know, understand and read about how Tenzin came to be. Long live the Bird Girl!!

Great novella, loved Tenzin's story By Amazon Customer Ever since Elizabeth Hunter started her Elemental World Series, I've been fascinated with Tenzin, the 5,000 year old wind vampire who was Giovanni's partner when he was a mercenary. She becomes a close friend and ally of Beatrice, even lending a hand in her eventual turning. Tenzin is incredibly powerful, surprisingly vicious, yet centered, sure of herself and the creature she has been for thousands of years. "The Bronze Blade" is her story. The novella starts with Tenzin telling the story of how she was turned into a vampire to Nima, her lifelong human companion who is now dying. Tenzin is reluctant, as it is not a pretty story and she is "no longer that girl". Nima begs Tenzin to tell her the story, so she can "take some of that darkness away with me when I go."Tenzin starts from the very beginning, with her last memories as a human in her village in the Northern steppes of Asia. She was a young wife and mother who had recently lost her husband. When checking on their goats one night, she is captured by frightening, supernatural "raiders" who can fly. The last thing she remember is the beautiful face of her creator, Jun (Zhang, for anyone that's read the Elemental Mysteries books). She awakes as a vampire, not knowing what has happened to her or what she is now. She is only aware of the overwhelming sensory overload that comes from being a newborn vampire, and the unrelenting thirst for blood. The girl's captors (she does not remember her human name) are Jun's sons, who call themselves the Sida. These are brutal vampires, extremely bloodthirsty, who care little for the human lives they take and even less for the women they viciously use.Saraal (as she is called by the Sida camp) was turned so she could be a "wife" to Kuluun, one of Jun's sons, an equal to him as he had in his human life. What Jun and Saraal didn't know was that Kuluun's concept of equality is extremely twisted when it comes to his women. Sadly, Saraal has no training and no real knowledge of the powers she now possesses, so there is not much she can do to stop it.Reading these chapters of Saraal's first years as a vampire are truly heartbreaking, and Hunter does not shy away from describing the violent imagery and brutality exhibited by the Sida vampires. This story is brutal. Saraal goes through years of pain, beatings and rape before she starts to get an inkling of what she has now become -- and how she can become stronger than her captors.Saraal is kept sane (or maybe insane) by a little wind vampire named Aday, whom only she can see and speak to. (Everyone else simply sees her as "talking to herself" - more on that in a bit). Aday is playful, caring, and is always by Saraal's side, even when she is being abused. With Aday's encouragement and prodding, Saraal begins to drink human blood, and her strength increases to the point that she is able to kill the first of what would be all of Jun's sons.Hunter never explicitly states if Aday is real, and the last chapters give an impression that Aday is Saraal herself, or what manifested after Jun's sons finally "killed" Saraal. Did her mind split into two separate identities to keep itself from breaking down completely throughout the years of brutality forced upon her? While Saraal was the one who silently accepted this life as her fate, Aday gave her the strength to ultimately become the vampire she is now.The story ends with her finally coming face to face with her sire, the legendary Jun. It's funny but great how consistent Hunter is with the story, as Tenzin had already described her father's reaction in "The Force of Wind" :"What did Zhang do when they were all dead?""He laughed. Then he told me I was his finest creation, his fiercest warrior, and sent me out into the world with half his wealth." - The Force of WindThat's pretty much exactly what happens. Not much of a surprise, but kudos to Hunter for maintaining consistency. It drives me crazy when authors change things that have already been established in other books, or play fast and loose with the facts of their story, or simply don't follow up on the loose ends. Hunter is extremely good at tying all the pieces of history together in each book of the series. It's nice to read the novellas and see characters or concepts from the previous books coming full circle. It makes the mythology of the Elemental World much more rich, vivid, and easy to get lost into.Overall, a great novella, beautifully written, and it was great to finally see Tenzin's story and how she became the great warrior she is now. Great read for fans of the Elemental World series. Sadly, none of the other characters from the books make any cameos, but it doesn't matter. This is Tenzin's story, not everyone else's. "My life has been as fate dictated, and now I am master of it."Great book, can't wait to see what else Elizabeth Hunter has in store for this series.

8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Tenzin By Mugglemama79 I knew Tenzin's back story would be heartbreaking and it was but it was also powerful and gritty and even cringe worthy. An author that can make you feel all those things in just 5 chapters, plus an epilogue, is an amazing author. But, this book also accomplishes something else, as brutal and gruesome as Tenzin's story is, it makes me love and respect her even more, not because of her astounding bravery as a fighter, but for bravery she shows by letting herself care for others again, to be a friend, confidant and show love. That is truly brave.

I should have known better than to think the kindle book was so much cheaper than the paper back, it is not uncommon.

Though this is a stand-alone novella, there are only a few references to the first book in the Dirt series and the author provides sufficient backfill so you won't feel left out. The only problem with this short story is that it does not highlight the author's ability to create an epic tale...for that, you will have to read one of the books. But, beware. C.C. Hogan's stories are addictive.

The Land of Stories: A Grimm Warning, by Chris Colfer

From School Library Journal Gr 4 Up—This delightful installment brings listeners back into Colfer's (The Enchantress Returns) unique fairy tale realm with twins Conner and Alex Bailey. Alex has settled into her training as a fairy godmother, while Conner is forced to work his way through school trying to be "normal," which is very difficult when you have fairy blood. When brand-new Brothers Grimm tales are discovered in Germany, Conner's interest is piqued. It's lucky that his class is heading there on a field trip, even luckier that his crush, Bree, is going as well. As the Grimms' tales are read, Conner realizes these stories are warnings about events that'll happen 200 years in the future—which is TODAY. Frantic, Conner must find a way back to the Land of Stories to warn his sister and grandmother of impending doom. Colfer narrates his tale with ease, creating the illusion of more than one voice. Familiarity with previous installments is not completely necessary to follow the story; however, listeners will most likely want to hear the first two and will definitely be clamoring for the fourth due to the epic cliff-hanger. A great choice for fantasy and fractured fairy tales enthusiasts.—Amanda Schiavulli, Finger Lakes Library System, NY

Review Colfer has a real skill for crafting stories and every chapter was packed with action, emotion and adventure. He is equally skilled at creating memorable characters and has breathed new life into old favourites like Little Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks and Little Bo Peep by giving them interesting story arcs and well-rounded personalities ... A Grimm Warning is a completely absorbing read that had me hooked from the first page. The Bookbag The perfect mix of adventure, misery, humour and romance ... pure genius! The Sunday Mail (Australia) There is more in Colfer's magic kingdoms than Disney has dreamt of USA Today

My daughters and I enjoyed reading the first two books in the series so much that they were counting down the days until July 8, 2014 arrived. And now that we've finished the third book, they are disappointed that they have to wait until 2015 when the next one come out. I have no doubt that they'll read these over and over until the next one is released, just as they continue to do with the Harry Potter books.I loved this story, maybe a little more than the last two. It moves pretty quickly, taking us from the US to Germany to England to Paris back to Germany and finally to the Land of Stories where the twins are finally reunited. (The idea that the Bailey twins were separated at the end of the last book was hugely upsetting for my 10-year-old!)But the cliff hanger!!! Oh my goodness!!! What a cliff hanger!!! Since finishing, my daughters have spent every spare moment discussing, analyzing, and trying to figure out where Chris Colfer could possibly be going next. A fun read for all!!!As a mom, I grew up reading fantasy and science fiction, getting lost in stories of other worlds...and I have to give Chris Colfer a huge round of applause for his dedication to all those beloved authors who came before him!

Can't wait for book 4 By PerkyTxGirl Review of the Land of Stories: A Grimm Warning by Chris ColferChris Colfer’s writing is maturing as the twins are growing up. This third installment of the Land of Stories series is the best one yet. The writing is better, the story deeper, and darker. Not too dark compared to other books in the genre. Since the twins are now fourteen, one presumes that is the target audience as well.Whereas the Wishing Spell was light and funny, and the Return of the Enchantress was at times funny and sad, A Grimm Warning is actually frightening and serious. There is still plenty of humor especially involving many of the Land of Stories characters and of course Connor, but the themes of war are pretty heavy for a young audience. The twins get to spend time apart and grow which is nice to see though when they come back together the reunion is very welcome. They each get a romantic interest – though they are very sweet and innocent as should be expected for first love of the very young. In our world, Connor goes on a quest reminiscing of the previous two books as he desperately tries to pass on the Grimm warning about the potential invasion of the land of stories. Meanwhile, Alex works on her powers, allows romance to blossom, and is installed as Fairy Godmother to be.They are reunited under dire circumstance as the invasion of the Grande Armée threatens the entire Land of Stories and Alex is tested as the acting Fairy Godmother. Managing a war is a huge task for a fourteen year old but as she did in the Return of the Enchantress, Alex shows wisdom, maturity and grace under extreme pressure. The story ends on a huge shocker and sort of a cliff hanger. I was left trying to piece the mystery together because it both does and doesn't make sense! I had guessed the identity of the masked man but at the same time kept thinking, no way, it can’t be because it just doesn't work with what we learned previously!!! I am eagerly awaiting the fourth installment of this enthralling series.I highly recommend the audio version because for the third time, Chris Colfer reads his story and the results are absolutely fabulous. His voice work is entertaining and truly brings the story to life.

Words cannot describe how amazing it was By lynn young I have always loved fairy tales, so once I heard about The Land of Stories series, I bought them immediately. The Land of Stories 3: A Grimm Warning only took me three days to read it, it was that good. I'm not going to spoil anything but overall, once I finished it, I felt happy, sad, relieved, scared, and amazed at Chris Colfer's way of writing. I loved these books instantly and reread them many times. You should definitely buy this book if you're into fairy tales and adventure. I can't wait for the fourth one to come out in 2015!

Vampyr: The Complete Trilogy, by K. M. McFarland

About the Author All three novels have been previously published individually. What people are saying:McFarland writes in a style that is emotionally hypnotic and has rarely been seen since the classic vampire novels of Anne Rice.Smoldering in places and erotically charged, this is fantastic stuff from K.M.McFarland. Well written and with complex character relationships, it is a very sensual read. If you are a Deborah Harkness fan and enjoyed the All Souls Trilogy, then you will enjoy Masquerade.Awesome book. If you love vamps, then read this. Amazing plot choices and reads well as a standalone, but treat yourself and read all three.

Setting it in New Orleans with magnificent world building, and you feel like you are really there, even if (like me) you've never actually seen any of it.This is the trilogy collection, so I won't give a run-down of the story, you've got the synopsis for that! What I will say is that this is an incredibly complex story, with a multitude of characters to keep straight in your mind over who is what to whom! I think this was the hardest part for me as characters come and go.I thoroughly enjoyed this trilogy and was wavering between a 3 or 4-star review. In the end, I have given it 3-stars as the start of each book was a bit dry in tone, until the story really got going; and for the character confusion. I would definitely recommend this set though, and a 3-star review is no way reflective of a 'bad' book!* Verified Purchase on Amazon.com *MerissaArchaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books!

An entertaining and interesting read By Lorraine I enjoyed this somewhat steamy trilogy, and getting to know all the characters and their relationships to one another.K. M. McFarland has taken the vampire genre and given it a new twist, giving us vampires with 'humanity' but without losing their predatory nature, and a unique take on vampire reincarnation. My feelings towards the characters changed often, some for the better and others from like to dislike, depending on their role within the story. As characters joined, left and reappeared, it could have got complicated and confusing, but the author kept it all straight in my mind.My only complaint would be the occasional repetitiveness of one character explaining the past to one another, but all in all, it was an entertaining and interesting read. The author gifted an ecopy of this trilogy to me.(also reviewed on Amazon.co.uk)

From Greek and Roman times to the digital era, the library has remained central to knowledge, scholarship, and the imagination. Generously illustrated, The Meaning of the Library examines this key institution of Western culture. Tracing what the library has meant since its beginning, examining how its significance has shifted, and pondering its importance in the twenty-first century, significant contributors--including the librarian of the Congress and the former executive director of the HathiTrust--present a cultural history of the library.

Whether relishing an account of the Alexandrian Library or a look at the stylish railway libraries of nineteenth-century England, readers will find a sparkling survey of the library through time. Here, too, are the imagined libraries of fiction, poetry, and film, from Scheherazade's stories to The Name of the Rose and beyond. In an informative introduction, Alice Crawford sets out the book's purpose and scope, and an international array of scholars, librarians, writers, and critics offer vivid perspectives about the library through their chosen fields. Contributors to this collection include David Allan, James Billington, Robert Crawford, Robert Darnton, Stephen Enniss, Richard Gameson, Edith Hall, Laura Marcus, Andrew Pettegree, John Sutherland, Marina Warner, and John Wilkin.

A landmark collection, The Meaning of the Library addresses the significance of the library--both physical and virtual--in the past and present, and will appeal to readers, librarians, and all who are interested in this vital institution's heritage and ongoing legacy.

Review "[F]or both scholar and general reader, comprehensive bibliographic notes constitute a multilingual gold mine of historical resources on libraries."--Booklist"Compelling . . . astute . . . eloquent . . . as a history and an assessment of an inestimable resource and a force for good in the world, The Meaning of the Library is a timely and thought-provoking compilation."--Patricia Craig, The Independent"The Meaning of the Library: A Cultural History is a riveting and deeply satisfying work that is bound to leave the reader not only far more aware of the sociocultural importance of the institution as a reservoir of heritage and learning, but also inspired to think of issues that lie beyond the earthly and temporal realm."--Lois C. Henderson, Bookpleasures.com"A marvelous survey of Western libraries and books from Greek and Roman times to today. . . . It is a lovely book, handsomely designed with endnotes, author bios, bibliography, index, and an eight-page, four-color insert-illustrations of ancient and medieval book cabinets."--Wally Wood, Bookpleasures.com

From the Back Cover

"This wide-ranging survey of the long and tumultuous history of libraries contains at least a dozen tantalizing bits of information per page. I was fascinated and enriched. And because these essays began as lectures delivered in a library, they illustrate beautifully one of the library's most important roles--as a stage set for writers to share what they've learned about various subjects, including Roman bathhouses, Victorian fumigators, plunder, lust, and the eighteenth-century librarian upon whose death, it was said, 'The books are grievin, 'mang themselves.'"--Marilyn Johnson, author of This Book Is Overdue!: How Librarians and Cybrarians Can Save Us All

"The Meaning of the Library covers the history of the library from antiquity to the present day. This is a very good collection of essays."--Colin Burrow, editor of Metaphysical Poetry

"The library as a topic is currently of increasing cultural interest. I enjoyed The Meaning of the Library and learned a lot from the book's eclectic and interesting mix of essays."--Richard Ovenden, Bodley's Librarian, University of Oxford

About the Author Alice Crawford is digital humanities research librarian at the University of St. Andrews Library in Scotland. Her books include Paradise Pursued: The Novels of Rose Macaulay.

Henderson No matter whether you are a library user, or a library professional, you are bound to find something that satisfies your curiosity or that tweaks your interest in Alice Crawford’s collection of essays entitled The Meaning of the Library: A Cultural History. Spanning a wide range of topics to do with libraries, the work is separated into three parts: The Library through Time; The Library in Imagination; and The Library Now and in the Future. Being both a librarian by profession and a cultural historian of sorts (by dint of having studied the Cultural History of Western Europe for three years at undergraduate level), I chose to home in on The Library in Imagination, and I was definitely not disappointed. The wide grasp of the subject, and the depth of the insights, was astounding. From Marina Warner’s acknowledgement of the seminal value of the Epic of Gilgamesh, through Robert Crawford’s exploration of the librarian as ennobled and immortalized in poetry (and I can think of a number of librarians who would love to be so remembered), to Laura Marcus’s pursuit of the image of the haunted library and the library as labyrinth (with special focus, much to my delight, being paid to the library as presented in all its convolutions and Mediaeval ramifications in The Name of the Rose), the authors never fail to intrigue and enlighten. Not only are the contributors all experts in their field, but they are also such excellent writers that one can truly savor each word and sentence that they write. Their rhapsodical descriptions embody the mystery that lies at the core of the library as phenomenon stretching down the ages. For instance, Warner draws attention to the “way of making [which] is important with regard to the library in fiction, viewed not only as a particular place where single titles or book-objects have been collected, but as a metaphor for literature itself, a polyphony of voices, laid down on multiple tracks, looping and converging over time, sometimes over great vistas of time”. In short, the richness and wealth of information that is embodied in library collections is brought only honor and memorableness in this text.Whoever thought of a library as being a prosaic and stuffy old place that bears little relevance to the current digital age must definitely think again. Rounding off the work with an acknowledgement of the significance of libraries even in the modern day and age, given by Library of Congress James H. Billington, tribute is paid to the role of the library as a purveyor of knowledge that is geared towards satisfying mankind’s ongoing search for the truth. The Meaning of the Library: A Cultural History is a riveting and deeply satisfying work that is bound to leave the reader not only far more aware of the sociocultural importance of the institution as a reservoir of heritage and learning, but also inspired to think of issues that lie beyond the earthly and temporal realm.

A stimulating and fascinating survey By Wally Wood The library, like the symphony orchestra, has always seemed to me to be one of the towering accomplishments of civilization. The Meaning of the Library: A Cultural History, a collection of essays edited by Alice Crawford, is a marvelous survey of Western libraries and books from Greek and Roman times to today. Crawford is digital humanities research librarian at the King James Library at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, and the essays were commissioned to mark the 400th anniversary of the library. It is a lovely book, handsomely designed with endnotes, author bios, bibliography, index, and an eight-page, four-color insert—illustrations of ancient and medieval book cabinets. The essays consider the social roles libraries have played across the age, as centers for scholarship, mazes, sanctuaries, archives, and repositories for hidden wisdom. As Crawford writes in her introduction, "Although they are arranged to follow the library's development through history, the essays aim to offer simply glimpses of what libraries were like at these times rather than a comprehensive history. They focus on what libraries were used for, why they were needed, why they were meaningful to the various communities from which they emerged, and provide impressions rather than analyses of their value in the changing chronological contexts."Edith Hall, Professor of Classics at Kings College London, opens the book by noting that our first certain literary response to a library is in a raucous comedy by Aristophanes, first performed in 425 B.C. The book closes with an essay by James Billington, the Librarian of Congress, who argues that "librarians are becoming more rather than less important in this new age of instant electronic communication; and libraries as places have a key role to play in building and sustaining participatory and accountable democratic societies—the kind that have historically not fought one another." In between these two essays, we read about the growth of community libraries in England and Scotland, the library in fiction from Gilgamesh to Borges, the library in film (think "Ghostbusters"), the library in poetry, and more.At least two profound shifts have affected the library in history. The first was the invention of printing and movable type. With the spread of printed books—inexpensive compared to hand-copied codexes—a library was no longer a way for Europe's richest to flaunt their wealth and culture. We're in the middle of the second shift: the rise of the internet and digital copies. This means that something like the HathiTrust, founded only in October 2008 as a consortium of research libraries, now has more than 11 million volumes and is one of the 10 largest research library collections in North America. As a novelist, I was particularly interested in rise of community libraries in 19th century England. The worthies in charge saw the institution as a tool of edification and moral enlightenment. Novels were a problem. Narrative fiction "seemed to be so constructed by manipulative and morally bankrupt authors as to sensationalize or whitewash bad behavior and encourage emotional incontinence among readers through blatant titillation. The other worry, closely related to the first, was that such literature was also simultaneously much more likely to appeal to and therefore to lead astray those vulnerable readers with the weakest constitutions, specifically women, the young, and—a fascinating Georgian perception—servants, as a consequence threatening not just public morality but also the social and political order." Shades of Seduction of the Innocent.Clearly The Meaning of the Library is not a book for everyone. But for those of us who love books and have long loved libraries it is a stimulating and fascinating survey of "the library" in Western culture.

It has been solely for research and entertainment. This book changed my mind. It is no short book for me, I have to admit. However, to fully deliver such great amount of complete detailed instructions one might need, this is definitely worth your time and consideration. I highly appreciate all the specific information on how people make money with this amazing site. Advertising and marketing, either your own products or others', this is the summary on where the money comes from. This book provides all one needs to know on HOW to do so. Everything about copyrights, rules, competitions is included. I had never heard about Adsense and Adwords before reading this book. You can also find tons of useful advices in Q&A chapter or the one about things to avoid. The knowledge this book offers itself is amazing, to be honest.

It was for entertainment and social media buzz; this book changed all that! I did not know it was owned by Google, nor that longer length videos are an earned privilege. Ok… so the history of the company was impressive enough for me to continue reading about just how I might be able to generate revenue there…The writer offered the benefits, how to strategically research competitive data, was precise in the topic of copyrights, wise in the types of content to use and how to match that to an appropriate niche. Some of the basic marketing information was not new to me, but other readers might find it new and essential; I was not previously aware of the ability to add meta tags to the work posted there! My barometer on reading books like this is whether I come away with at least one gem; that I did! There were a few minor formatting issues in the book, the grammar was good, and the tone of writing - inviting and engaging. Putting the preview of the next book, “Hacking” was genius - I know there is a next read, and it has nothing to do with sliding over to the criminal side of life!

This book offers good, solid writing with an incredible story. I met Mr. Ponder recently at Austin Comic Con and he warned me that the book had a few unexpected twist in it. The twists completely blew me out of the water and were so well done. The excitement and love he had for his book when talking to me about it clearly shone through in the writing and care for this story.I had my doubts about this book at first from reading the blurb on the back, but after talking to Mr. Ponder I decided to give it a shot. It didn't disappoint and was very much money well spent. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes science fiction. There truly is a bit of everything for everyone in this: drug cartels, mechas, some romance, a little drama, aliens, and an overall captivating story.Another thing I loved about this book is that the cast of characters are very diverse in race. As a parent of a mixed child myself, I'm always looking for books we can read together that offer a diverse cast of characters. I also liked how this book sort of touched on the subject of racism and some of the feelings of being a child of mixed race. It will be a good springboard for discussion when my child gets a little older.I honestly couldn't put it down. Note and I cannot wait for the next part.

I gave it a 4 star only because the writing isna bit choppy. The book has a lot of diverse characters and is well driven by its main character Leo, while also following parts about his other characters Michael and Iris. For me it was hard to follow all the "lingo" because new words for machines are in the book and I am not familiar with military lingo either. The plot, along with all the twist and list if characters are what made this a good read. I would recomend to others.

It is the sort of thing one tends to hide; people know you play the piano and then ask you to play. I dread that because I do not have a significant memorised repertoire although I can play many pieces if I have the music.David Bolton’s book is extremely useful and highly practical. It takes some of the ideas from the Gieseking-Leimer approach but makes them more accessible; he adds lots of ideas of his own. He goes through many situations in which memory lapses can occur and offers solutions. He indicates that a poor musical memory is not uncommon but is not terminal; something can be done about it. He provides a set of solutions which will sometimes reinforce each other. His use of music in PDF form has facilitated new approaches to assisting with memory.I have looked at several books on improving musical memory but have not found them worthwhile. In contrast, Bolton’s book says a lot that is new, practical and immediately applicable.

By markmarz Somewhat useful but much better is the primary source for this book: 'Piano Technique by Walter Gieseking and Karl Leimer'. At one point he reveals his 'improvement' on that source by sharing his own method of memorization - a method that does nothing to solve the problem of finger memory which is one of the main promises of the book. There are more than a couple times when the lack of effort put into this book is made annoyingly clear. For example once he mentions that he can't remember the name of a biography of Horowitz but thinks it might have been the one authored by Dubal. Really? What would it take to find out?Another time he mentions he no longer has a book by Neuhaus so cannot quote a passage from it. Come now, how much effort would it take to get a copy, find the quotation and give it to us?Slapped together, nothing new, and almost the cost of the original source. Spend your money elsewhere.

And I can actually relate to many of the points that the author stated. Many of his ideas reinforce what I already experienced and it is reassuring to know that someone feels that way too. Great book to improve your music education not just in the memorization techniques but also how to practise effectively.
