About the Author Dr. Erin Mander is a curriculum consultant in Orange County, Florida, and teaches both the FTCE General Knowledge and Professional Examination classes through the University of Central Florida Continuing Education Program. Dr. Mander studied curriculum and instruction at Wheaton College (B.A.), Walden University (M.A.), and the University of Central Florida (Ed.D.). She is a certified teacher who has been working in education for 15 years.Tammy Powell currently teaches both the FTCE General Knowledge Mathematics and the K–6 Elementary Education classes for the University of Central Florida Continuing Education Program and works as a math, science, and subject-area exam tutor for Mastermind Educational Consulting. Mrs. Powell is a University of Central Florida graduate and a certified teacher who has been working in education for 17 years. Currently a STEM lab teacher, Mrs. Powell has taught elementary, middle, and high school, specializing in math and science. PASSING THE FTCE GENERAL KNOWLEDGE TEST

Getting Started

Before you work through this book, we strongly recommend that you visit the Florida Teacher Certification Examinations website at www.fl.nesinc.com. There you’ll find the most current information on the exam, including registration information, testing sites, testing format, test-day advice, registration cost, and FTCE-developed test preparation materials.

An Overview of the Test

Who Takes the Test, and What Is It Used for?The FTCE-GKT is used by the State of Florida to assess knowledge of teacher certification candidates. If you do not achieve a passing score on the FTCE-GKT, don’t panic. You can take the test again, so you can work on improving your score in preparation for your next administration.

About Computer-Based Testing

The FTCE-GKT is offered only on computer at flexible times and locations throughout the year. Minimal computer and typing skills are required to complete the computer- based tests. You need to be comfortable with a Windows environment, using a mouse (including clicking, double-clicking, dragging, and scrolling), and typing at a rate that will allow you to complete the assignment in the allotted time (approximately 30 words per minute).

In computer-based testing, examinees complete the tests by selecting answers on-screen to multiple-choice questions and typing or recording a response to a performance assessment component. The FTCE-GKT requires the examinee to type a response to the essay assignment.

When Should the FTCE-GKT Be Taken?

The FTCE-GKT is usually taken immediately before the completion of a teacher certification program at a college or university. This gives candidates enough time to retake the test if necessary. Our practice tests will familiarize you with the format of the exam so that you do not have to go through the anxiety of learning about the FTCE-GKT during the actual exam.

Is There a Registration Fee?

Yes, you must pay a fee to take the FTCE-GKT. Fee waivers are available for candidates who are unable to afford registration. You must be enrolled in a college undergraduate program and must prove that you are required by a registered score recipient to take the exam. That's not to say it didn't help at all: in fact, it covered most of the ideas of the test and skills needed. However, I found the sample exams to be way too easy compared to the actual test. For instance, the numbers used on the real exam contained a lot of fractions, decimals, and negatives, while the book only provided with simple equations with rational numbers.

Excellent, must-have resource for any student taking the ACT By SBCincinnati [[VIDEOID:4bbfcaed5ab241110648517f39b147a4]] Kaplan once again has created an outstanding product for students wanting to do well on the ACT. When you purchase this study program, not only to you receive this 827 page book, but also a DVD and free access to their website resources. I highly recommend this guide. My son used a Kaplan guide to study for the ACT a few years ago and I know it improved his scores. Not only was the information helpful to him, but being able to take practice tests without any pressure helped him to be comfortable and less-stressed when he took the actually test. Now it is time for another of my children to take the ACT and the first thing I looked for was the newest Kaplan test prep book.As I said, the product includes the book, dvd and online resources. Good quality text, online access setup doesn't make sense given the content By Victor Blake We have the PSAT and three different Kaplan SAT review books and have been pleased with the quality of the books, software, and online tutorial materials and practice tests. But, there is something wrong with the ACT online setup. Creating the account for online tutorials and practice tests has students (my daughter) confused because in order to create an account you have to complete some questions including selecting which college you current attend. Since the ACT is a college entrance exam, it is pretty obvious that should not be a required question and it confuses kids who are already apprehensive about taking multiple exams. It looks to me like Kaplan somehow confused the LSAT or GRE login setup with the ACT login setup. We did NOT have this problem when using the Kaplan online services for SAT prep, just here with ACT prep. Disappointing. By Ashley, Paranormal Sisters I honestly didn't know this was about vampires until I read a review. Though now reading the new summary I can kind of see that it is haha. Anyways, I haven't read a vampire book since early last year so I was excited and not gonna lie, a little bit nervous to see what Mrs. Taylor was going to bring to the table. I should have never doubted her!She brings an interesting and fresh tale that I think all vampire lovers would love! Throughout I was sitting on the edge of my seat, especially when we were learning more about the vampire world! I was instantly hooked, seriously on the edge of my seat! I did not want to leave this world! I also loved how this kind of reminded me of The Originals, with it being in the south and all the hierarchy stuff. Oh god, I just love the south and Mrs. Taylor brought it to life beautifully! It just sucked me in more!Alivia (god, I love that name!) brought many feels to me! Especially the doomed end to her and Ian, who by the way got like 3x hotter when we find out that he's a virgin! Or am I the only women here that thinks that? Anyways, I was cheering for them throughout the whole read! *Small spoiler* Even though there relationship is doomed from the start as he's a vampire hunter and she's a Born.* Which is why it was such an emotional roller coaster for me, especially at the end. Oh my gosh, that ending! I honestly saw it coming because I didn't think Mrs. Taylor would be that mean so I was literally jumping with joy at the end! My heart was so happy! I can't wait to find out how that's even possible in the next book!Overall I absolutely enjoyed this! I loved that Alivia took things into her own hands and didn't wait for anyone else to make any decisions for her. She is one kick ass character! She's strong and smart (loved where she hid many wooden stakes in her dress!) and I can't wait to see what she does in the next one! God, I'm sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for the next one!

She is a True Storyteller. She can easily switch genres and make them all her own. I have always admired her ease in the way she transports a reader into her works. She has accomplished this once again in her new series House of Royals. You are immersed in whatever world she creates.It is a love story, a vampire story, a mystery, a fantasy. Alivia Ryan has inherited her until now, unknown father’s antebellum mansion, his servants and Rath, a manservant whose loyalty to the Conrath family goes deep in a small town called Silent Bend, Mississippi. Along with the estate comes money, suspicion, secrecy, and an introduction into a society she knew nothing about. Life in Silent Bend is typical of that thought of an old river town along the Mississippi, replete with Spanish moss and old-south charm; under those southern manners, there lies a deep-seated fear of going out after dark.Ian Ward, a self-proclaimed protector of Silent Bend has his hands full being an EMT, however, after Alivia arrives things become more complicated. Add to the mix a “shunned House” (of vampires), Ian’s not so sweet but sassy Grandmother Lula, and a younger sister, Elle who is a whiz at chemistry, the very real ‘threat’ of the King, and a mysterious legend combined with the eclectic townspeople, and you have quite the tale.Much more detail would spoil the story, but I sincerely love what she has done to these vampires to make them hers. Since this is a series, Ms. Taylor would be remiss if she did not include at least one “cliff-hanger” and I must say, “WHAT!!??” I am ready for the next book to arrive!!

I loved Keary Taylor's Eden Trilogy and had high hopes for this book but was a little let down. I like the premise of a vampire princess, enjoyed the characters and the plot but feel that it could be a fleshed out a little more. The book takes place over a few months but felt like all of the events took place in a week. The pacing was a little too quick for me and I would have liked to see Alivia trying to fit in more with the town and fighting back against the animosity directed at her. Try to prove herself more that she isn't the monster they all think she is because of her heritage. Overall it was a fun, quick read but just left me wanting something more. I do look forward to the next installment!

The most recent entry, "Powerful Premise: Writing the Irresistible" takes on a difficult topic and provides clear, concise advice that any writer can use. The premise for a book is not the pitch, but makes it possible to pitch successfully. Bill knows this distinction and shares his knowledge with the reader in a truly engaging way. I read this in one sitting, but will go back to it over and over again as I work my way through the process of conceiving, writing, and evaluating my own writing and that of others. Premise isn't everything, but without a great premise you have nothing. You can't help but become a better author.

One suggestion I would make to those people new to the Red Sneaker series is that you might consider reading this book FIRST and then delve into the others. In other words, work out a solid premise then move on the plot, character and the rest. All the Red Sneaker books are certainly worth reading and keeping as references.

I run a tutoring business (Kay Tutoring, www.kaytutoring.com), and Erica's books comprise our complete curriculum for SAT prep (we also use her books for ACT prep). Although I think the book works best when interpreted by a tutor (obviously I am biased as that is how we use these books), a motivated student could do this on his or her own, or a parent could just as easily do this with his or her child. I sometimes worry that if everyone bought all of Erica's product there'd be no need for tutoring :) I still remember my reaction when I first came across Erica's first book: WHERE HAS THIS BOOK BEEN ALL MY LIFE! I had my own curriculum, which I felt was quite good, at the time, but it honestly didn't compare with Erica's curriculum. I know that using Erica's curriculum is a huge reason we've been able to be so successful vs. our competitors with ACT, SAT and PSAT prep. We now do a fair amount of Skype tutoring as word has spread about how we can guarantee really high scores for our motivated students--this guarantee is largely backed on the strength of Erica's curriculum. I couldn't wait to get ahold of Erica's new program for the new SAT because I knew it would be just as great as her other materials...and it is!

Marge had loved her almost at once. Most people did love Tellie. She was honest and sweet and generous with her time, and she wasn't afraid of hard work. Even at the age of fourteen, she'd taken charge of the kitchen and Dawn and Brandi. The sisters were nine and ten at the time respectively. They'd loved having an older girl in the house. Marge's job as a Realtor kept her on the road at all sorts of odd hours. But she could depend on Tellie to keep the girls in school clothes and help with their homework. She was a born babysitter.Tellie had doted on J.B. He was very rich, and very temperamental. He owned hundreds of acres of prime ranch land near Jacobsville, where he raised purebred Santa Gertrudis cattle and entertained the rich and famous at his hundred-year-old rancho. He had a fabulous French chef in residence, along with a housekeeper named Nell who could singe the feathers off a duck with her temper at ten paces. Nell ran the house, and J.B., to an extent. He knew famous politicians, and movie stars, and foreign royalty from his days as a rodeo champion. He had impeccable manners, a legacy from his Spanish grandmother, and wealth from his British grandfather, who had been a peer of the realm. J.B.'s roots were European, despite his very American cattle operation.But he did intimidate people. Locally he was known more for chasing Ralph Barrows off his place on foot, wielding a replica fantasy sword from the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy. Barrows had gotten drunk and shot J.B.'s favorite German shepherd for growling at him and barking when he tried to sneak into the bunkhouse in the small hours of the morning during roundup. Drinking wasn't allowed on the ranch. And nobody hurt an animal there. J.B. couldn't get to the key to his gun cabinet fast enough, so he grabbed the sword from its wall display and struck out for the bunkhouse the minute his foreman told him what was going on. The dog recovered, although it limped badly. Barrows hadn't been seen since.J.B. wasn't really a social animal, despite the grand parties he threw at the ranch. He kept to himself, except for the numerous gorgeous women he squired around in his private jet. He had a nasty temper and the arrogance of position and wealth. Tellie was closer to him than almost anyone, even Marge, because she'd taken charge of him when she was fourteen and he went on a legendary drunk after his father died. It was Tellie who'd made Marge drive her to J.B.'s place when Nell called in a panic and said that J.B. was wrecking the den and the computers. It was Tellie who'd set him down, calmed him and made cinnamon coffee for him to help sober him up.J.B. tolerated her interventions over the years. He was like her property, her private male. Nobody dared to say that, of course, not even Tellie. But she was possessive of him and, as she grew older, she became jealous of the women who passed through his life in such numbers. She tried not to let it show. Invariably, though, it did.When she was eighteen, one of his girlfriends had made an unkind remark to Tellie, who'd flared back at her that J.B. wouldn't keep her around for much longer if she was going to be rude to his family! After the girl left, J.B. had it out with Tellie, his green eyes flaming like emeralds, his thick black hair almost standing up straight on his head with bad temper. This one however was not worth the pages it was printed on. J.B. is an awful man. He was not your typical alpha male, he was cruel and emotionally abusive. I couldn't find an ounce of sympathy for him and I found myself angry that Tellie didn't feel that she deserved better than him. Like I said, I like Diana Palmers books but this one isn't worth the read.

Hammock for years before she realized that her feelings went beyond that. Feeling that she is continually running her head into a brick wall, Tellie gives up on J.B. and tries to look forward.J.B. Hammock has been anything but lucky when it comes to love. Wanting more from Tellie, but seeing that she is unable to give it, J.B. lashes out with the anger he is known for. When his anger causes her to get in a car accident and lose her memory, J.B. is determined to take advantage of the situation.This is a classic Diana Palmer with the older hero and the virgin heroine. When Tellie regains her memory, she flees J.B. thinking that he was using her for his own personal amusement. Anytime she thinks of the words he hurled at her, she feels sick to her stomach. What she doesn't expect is for J.B. to come after her. Vintage Palmer, HEARTBREAKER is a fast read that will make you cringe and laugh at times. Overall, I got exactly what I was expecting when I picked up the book.

10 of 12 people found the following review helpful. Disappointment By Susan As a major Diana Palmer fan, I looked forward to this new book (instead of a reprint) but I was so disappointed! This book is the worst of all the other books (abused as a child, orphan, cruel man, no interest- then an engagement, etc.) strung together into one book- I actually said "yuck" when I finished it. I agree with the reviewer who said that they have "outgrown" Diana. I have kept some of my favorite Diana Palmer books and do reread them. This is not one that I will keep.
