I thought that the pictures were super fun and whimsical By Kelley C Grade one Phonics Early Learning Skills is a book published by Speedy Publishing and sold through Baby Professor on Amazon. This book is essentially an alphabet book. Each page has a letter and along with the letter it shows an animal that begins with that letter sound. I thought that the pictures were super fun and whimsical, some of the animals, especially the hippopotamus, had me cracking up with their human like expressions and poses.I did have some issues with the animals that they chose. For instance they used giraffe for g. My preference would have been for the author to use a word that had the /g/ sound at the beginning that is used most frequently instead of the soft /g/ in giraffe. A goat may have been a better choice for a book focusing on phonics for young children. N is for neandrathal is just, well, that is just something else isn't it? I was actually confused why the book had 2 monkeys in a row, but then I looked more carefully and found that gem.At the end there is a list of words for children to practice reading on their own.All in all I thought this was a cute and quirky book.I was offered this book at a discount in exchange for an honest review.

What you see is what you get pretty much. If you can snag this book for free I think it's a good deal if you are in the market for this kind of book but honestly I wouldn't pay for it.I believe this Baby Professor book could easily be for younger kids. I could see 3 year olds liking this book and even 2 year olds.That being said, this ebook is very basic and nothing earth shattering. I would've been very disappointed if I had paid even just .99¢ for this ebook. I will leave this book on my iPad for a friends daughter that I sometimes watch at sibling sporting events. I thing she will enjoy this book as a 3 year old.-------------Here is my review for other Baby Professor ebooks in case you are in the market for non-phonic books. There are about 200 books in this ebook series that are offered in the kindle store for either free or for .99¢. There is a variety of subjects covered (like travel, transportation, animals, etc.) and most of the books follow about the same format. They usually have a picture on one page and a short paragraph with facts about the subject, then on the next page is usually just a picture. The pictures are usually quite vivid impressive but the information is normally lacking. You can take a peek inside the books by clicking "Look Inside" and this is pretty much what you get in each book.Overall, I do like theses books for their wonderful pictures. It would be nice if the books went into more detail but they are very basic books that I hope will get my kids interested in finding more about each subject. I think there is only 2 books that I didn't keep on my iPad, the 2nd grade phonics book and the creepy stories book. All the ebooks were offered for free to everyone at various times.I plan on keeping most of these books on my iPad for down time for my kids when they get bored waiting different places like the doctors office or practice for a sibling. I sometimes watch a friends 3 year old daughter and she likes to look through the pictures on my phone. I plan on showing her these books to keep her entertained. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Kid liked it, I could take it or leave it. By Samantha I made this purchase with the intention of my son enjoying it, and he did. When I asked him his opinion, he said "I liked it" so I gave it 4 stars. When I opened it, I noticed the colors seem somewhat muted, they could have been bolder and brighter, especially for attempting to entice a wiggly little boy to sit and read it. It is your normal A is for, B is for, but with a twist. The animals are not what you would expect, and I am having mixed feelings about that part. I think it is good because it is something different, and because my son is so used to these books, he was just reciting from memory the animals instead of reading the pages, so it forced him to pay more attention to the words and not just the animals on the pages. The thing I didn't like about it, is that some of the animals he has never heard of, and cannot pronounce and that frustrated him quite a bit. For example, X is for xenops (it shows a bird), I myself would have to google that one. At the end of the book it has a rundown of just the word and the animal or thing, and not the whole alphabet. A lot of the words are words my son already knows, so it was sort of a confidence booster at the end, which will make him want to try again,and I liked that. All in all, I would give it 3 stars, but rated it 4 because my son likes it, and it was for him. It is currently free and I was provided it to me for free so I could review it, so I am happy enough with it. I would not buy it on paperback or spend more than a buck or two on it for my Kindle though. It was an automatic download so I got to sit down right away and read it with my son. It being on an electronic device (my phone) makes it convenient to read with him anywhere, and I like that. I attempted to take a screen shot since the photos in the book aren't as bright as the cover, but I cannot get it to work on my phone.Pros* My son liked it*It has a different twist than your traditional ABC book*It is on my phone, so convenient for reading anywhere at anytimeCons*I wish the pictures were brighter and bolder*Some of the words are above a first grader level, which can kill confidence and ruin a book, OR create a challenge your kid will want to overcome, it could go either way.*I was provided this product for free in return for my complete and honest review. Jacobson, Thad Kousser, and Lynn Vavreck).Gary C. Jacobson is distinguished professor of political science at the University of California, San Diego, where he has taught since 1979. He previously taught at Trinity College, the University of California at Riverside, Yale University, and Stanford University. Jacobson specializes in the study of U.S. elections, parties, interest groups, and Congress. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Indispensable and thoroughly engaging - five stars! By W. Cheung This is a very comprehensive textbook written for undergraduates. To introduce the student to the different methods of biblical criticism, the author uses genre criticism to analyse Mark, redaction criticism to analyse Matthew, the comparative method to analyse Luke, the socio-historical method to analyse John, and the contextual method to analyse the Johannine epistles. The author's stance is that the earliest traditions portray Jesus as an apocalyptic prophet, and he, perhaps unfairly, suggests that it is how Jesus saw himself. He then explains convincingly the evolution of christology (from low to high). Six full chapters are devoted to the undisputed Pauline letters. These are really very well written. The letters are rendered clear and patent. It is a marvel to have Paul's concerns and theology explained in a way that a layperson can actually understand! Finally, the pseudepigrapha and apocalypses are discussed. Indispensable and thoroughly engaging - five stars!

By W. triplette anyone who professes to be a Christian needs the info in this book. it is balanced, and at a depth that a freshman at a decent university can understand it. the author has no axe to grind here, it is a "just the facts, mam," investigation of each book of the new testament. it is an excellent resource for church groups, Christian youth groups, or anyone else wanting to get to the truth of the new testament, without the special sauce served by those wanting to alter the writings to suit their own tastes.

The pace of the book was just right, and once I started reading, I couldn't put it down. Amy and Damiin (his name seemed a little funny) had great chemistry together. Luna Cassini said she didn't want to make the book too long, but I would like to know how things worked out for them when they are crowned king and queen. Perhaps another book chronicling their adventures while returning the Marwan empire to its previous state. I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review.

One of self sacrifices, honor and saving not only his home but the younger planet of earth. In the midst of the battle he wages enters a female. He saves her yet has to make a decision of letting her go or keeping her. Will he make it on both battle grounds or will one suffer from them.Great characters, very well written. Even made me smile. Truly a great read. Can't wait to read more from this author.**Free for honest review

Powerful alien Prince Damiin is commited to tracking and killing his evil uncle. Earth born Amy is caught up in the flow of events, not knowing she is the fated mate of Prince Damiin. HEA! Fast Paced, Adventurous Hard SF By Pete Family in trouble, ancient mysteries, warlords, and rocket ships that take off and land vertically, as God and Robert Heinlein intended. These is a short list of some of the awesome stuff to be found in Mike Kupari’s first solo novel, Her Brother’s Keeper.It is hundreds of years in the future, on the far side of the Great Interregnum, a dark age where human interstellar civilization effectively ceased to be. Humanity is starting to build a spacefaring civilization again, rediscovering many of the lost artifacts and worlds of the Second Federation, many of which are far beyond their technical knowledge.Catherine Blackwood, captain of the Polaris-class privateer Andromeda, has been called home by her estranged father for a contract: journey to the lawless frontier world of Zanzibar. Her brother has been taken hostage by a local warlord, and Catherine has to get him back. Her feuds with her father forgotten, she gets to work recruiting a ground-combat team, and heads out into the black, on the long road to Zanzibar and her imperilled family.Along the way, the Andromeda and her crew encounter ancient derelicts, aliens, cultish colonists, a sort of space North Korea, and the enduring mysteries of Zanzibar. Also, since this is a Kupari novel, lots of action.The worldbuilding is phenomenal. There are centuries of history to be plumbed in the universe and backstory that Mike has created. He doesn’t answer all of the mysteries presented in Her Brother’s Keeper, either, leaving some of them up in the air for either the reader to ponder, and/or to be dealt with in a later story. It lends a depth to the storytelling that is very well done.The science is also gratifyingly hard. There’s no artificial gravity, spacecraft are described flying like spacecraft, not seagoing naval vessels or WWII warbirds. The ships are also laid out in a logical manner, where the direction of the decks, i.e., “down,” is toward the engines, so any artificial gravity is generated by thrust, rather than handwavium. No aircraft carriers in space, here.At its heart, though, Her Brother’s Keeper is an adventure story, and so the science and worldbuilding, as well thought out as they are, take a back seat to the plot and the action. Both are well done and fast paced. You’ll be sorry to see it end, and probably find yourself asking, “When’s the sequel coming out?”

8 of 9 people found the following review helpful. 3 stars with a major asterisk By Daniel S. Palter At the core this is a Heinlein juvie circa mid 50’s [definitely pre- New Wave]. It reads well. I enjoyed it. The end sets up a sequel and I may buy it. That said there were some real problems. Issue is how much these problems matter to each reader. 1. This is golden age space opera and the tropes clank. Doesn’t bother me a lot [I’m in my 60’s] but it may bother people quite a bit as the only updates are a tad more sex [which seems inserted just to say it was there than per se story appropriate] and more realistic [less implausible] ground combat. 2. There’s no real main story line. There are five POV characters whose vignettes overlap. They are each interesting in their own way but none dominates. 3. There’s too much story. A number of the scenes seem rushed as the party has to get to the next encounter. In my opinion several could have been edited out to allow better development of the rest. 4. The world building is barely beyond paper mache. Granted that golden age space opera was story and character driven, this is still bare bones. It works as long as you don’t think too much but I was mentally sanding down sticky points all the way through. Now perhaps some or all of these quibbles don’t matter to you. As a straight entertainment read it’s a 4.5 so if that’s your bag grab it. Otherwise I’d be cautious in suggesting it. It is not bad but the flaws do detract.

One can quite see that culture-starved Spaniards on the rebound from the Franco years would have taken to this farrago like a duck to water, but honestly - Skip Canell? Rita Malu? (Whose reappearance in Bartleby,by contrast, is welcome.) Skip Canell's FAVORITE NEPHEW? Aw c'mon, Henry, who ya kidding? EVM's previous book, the resonantly titled Impostura, was both funnier and more serious: unfortunately, as of now, you need Spanish to read it. The bibliography (is this the only work of literature to have one?) is well done but shows how wise the author was to omit from the later work the index many readers will have craved

Exceptionally beautiful By Parka [[VIDEOID:9ee6e5eadedac7c0396877baf2f88983]]This is one of the most beautiful animation background artbooks I've seen. I've actually reviewed the original Japanese edition 新海誠美術作品集 空の記憶 ~ The sky of the longing for memories ~ which was published in 2008. Publisher Vertical Comics has provided a huge fan service by translating the book into English. It's certainly worth translating and more people should get to see this book.The only difference I noticed is the lack of dust jacket. Even the paper used is the low gloss type. Colours are reproduced wonderfully.A Sky Longing for Memories: The Art of Makoto Shinkai is the artbook that collects the background art for 5 Centimeters Per Second, The Place Promised in Our Early Days and Voices from a Distant Star.I've watched those three anime films many years ago and can't really remember what the stories were about. But one thing that I cannot forget is the beautiful background art in those films.The commentary provides talks about the design aspect of each scene and it's really insightful. Now that all the text has been translated to English, I can now understand the amount of work that goes behind each painting.Attention to details is amazing. You'll find out that all the background art are well researched and tediously put together. Some scenes are the results of several photo references used together, while some others are painted over photos while taking into account the colour scheme. There's research done on design of trains, vending machines, LED lights on signboards, routes of the trains so that they can be accurately portrayed in drawing. To draw Akari's homemade lunch, the staff actually cooked and packed the meal, then photographed it for use as reference. All those tiny words on fare charts, open pages of books are actually all hand drawn in. Environment scenes painted with photo reference take into account the seasons and colour of the air.There's something about Japanese anime art that makes them look so fine. The level of detail in the background really makes a huge difference to the visual aesthetics. Every piece of art in this book is perfectly composed, and colour scheme carefully chosen. It's just awe-inspiring to see how many pieces of art there are to come out from the films. It's not all from Makoto Shinkai as there are other artists involved as well, many are interviewed at the back of the book. There's also a section that talks about how the scenes are created for animation.I highly recommend this book for its stunning art.(See more pictures of the book on my blog. Ackley Makoto Shinkai's art book " a sky longing for memories" is book is a faithful reproduction of the Japanese edition (minus dust jacket and wrap sleeve) in English. The book is filled with stills and background art from Shinkai's films. The book is full color with lots of images and provides tidbits of information on the techniques used to create the color drenched settings that have become Shinkai's signature.Most of the text in the book is strictly information documenting the scene a image was used. The back section of book includes an artist "how to" describing Shinkai's work process and materials/technology he used. There is also an essay and interview to bring the book to a close.

Scale is too small By Maria I really love Makoto Shinkai backgrounds, colors, details and everything.It is a good book... but scrolling through pages made me feel like I want to see each picture in a bigger scale, I feel like I need to zoom-in, but I can't (at least full page for each image or larger scale for the whole book would be good).It is more of a collection of background thumbnails, or pieces that scaled down to that size, than art-book to appreciate every piece of his amazing art. Quite a disappointment for me personally.Good things, that paper is good. Also, they have part in a book where they talk about techniques of creating these kind of backgrounds. Very nice.

By JANA GUNDY This is a prequel to the series and while not a requirement before you start book 1, it definitely will help you understand some dynamics in relationships that Addison has going into it. This is where her and Cooper meet, where we learn some things about Addison we didn't know and meet a tough, take charge girl finding her way in a strange world. I'm a huge fan of this series and loved this glimpse into Addison's life prior to the series.

Add in that they belong to different species in a world reshaped by the invasion of paranormal species and a determined, smart, survivor of a girl who is a PI at 19, and you've got a magic mix with plenty of story possibilities.
