I will admit the cover got me and that is why I downloaded. The main characters are teenagers. A group that I really don't care to read about. The bad attitude, pouting, door slamming, etc. is just not my bag. This book has a lot of great reviews so I know I am in the minority here. I just don't relate to teen drama so that was a turn off for me. Just not my cup of tea, nothing wrong with the story.I was not paid for this review. I am not an author nor do I know one. I am just a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less.

A story full of mystery and a hot cowboy By The Pleasure of Reading Today Ari Dubray is a 17 year old girl who is forced by the circumstances surrounding her to move to the middle of nowhere, Montana, and start a new life. She has a less than desirable family life with an abusive stepfather and a mother who is completely checked out of her daughters' lives. The saving grace in Ari's life is her sweet and precocious sister, Shelby.Canyon Michaels is trying to get his life and the business part of his ranch back in order after a terrible tragedy changed his family forever. He's handsome, he's sweet, and has a heart of gold.Ari and Canyon became each other's salvation through friendship and later on love.There is an aura of mystery throughout the whole story about Ari's past and the reason why her family ended up moving from a very posh environment to a country one. The author did a fantastic job keeping the mystery going without giving any clues as to what exactly was that Ari was hiding.I had two concerns with this book, in my opinion it needs some editing to eliminate the parts that makes it drag at times, and some of the stuff at the end, when the story unraveled and the authorities came into play, were not too believable. These things might not bother most readers but I'm a picky one and took notice of them.I loved the characters and the sweetness of their love story. I absolutely without a doubt LOVED Shelby, what a phenomenal character she was.This is a very emotional story and I really felt for Ari and the way she was treated by her family, to me it's heartbreaking that any child is treated in such a way.Lost of twist and turns and plenty of angst. A good summer read with a sexy cowboy.P.S. Barb, can we have an epilogue? ;-)

They have to be my favorite, so I was excited to read this book by Barbara Speak.What I loved most about this book was that it had some many great aspects to the story. We had drama, romance, Bull Riding, sweet little girl, mystery, tragedy, and even some sexy times. This book hit me on so many different emotional levels. I laughed, I cried, I yelled and I definitely swooned ;) I will warn you though, Barbara did touch on a serious subject of child abuse, so if that is a trigger for you, please keep that in mind when reading this book.This is the fourth book I have read by Barbara and I have to say it by far my favorite. I thought the storyline was interesting and kept me engaged throughout the whole book. The characters felt real to me and well developed. I think Barbara's writing just gets better with each book she writes.In this book we meet Arianna (Ari) and Canyon. Ari is a 17 year old senior in high school who had her life turned upside down because of one horrible night. Her and her family are sent to live in the middle of nowhere Montana. To say things were tough for her when she moved is an understatement. After a particularly rough day at school she goes to her truck to find it won't start and is forced to walk home, which is where she runs into Canyon. They also had a rocky start, but things soon smooth over and then things start to heat up. Both Ari and Canyon had tough childhoods and were by all intense and purposes alone. The only person Ari had other than Canyon was her 8 year old half sister. I have to admit Shelby stole this story for me….I loved her to pieces and the way Canyon was with her melted my heart. Now I don't want to spoil the story, but I will just leave you with this….Ari and Canyon's road to their HEA is a very rough one…they had a lot of ups and downs. But I was extremely happy with the way this story turned out!!!What I loved about these characters was their determination to make their lives good. Ari started out young and slightly immature, but by the end of this story she was a strong, independent girl, who is willing to fight for what she loves!!! I have to say that I was glad to see at the end that their story isn't over. I was hoping their would be more to Ari and Canyon's story. I can't wait for the second book. Now don't fret….this book doesn't end on a cliffhanger and all the questions Barbara created with this storyline are answered….I just felt I wanted more of Ari, Canyon and Shelby.So if you are looking for a great cowboy story that has a little bit of everything and will keep you guessing until the very end, then this is a book you should not hesitate to pick up. This is a book that is hard to put down!!!!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Pulse Pounding Sequel By Batmom I must say the first thing I liked about this book was that it starts with chapter twenty, which I found clever. Allow me to explain... this is the second book in The Dome Trilogy and the first book ended at chapter nineteen. Call me geeky, but I appreciate that subtle cleverness.Anyway. I loved the second book in this trilogy a lot more than the first title. The first reason being that I didn't have to wait for it to start. While the opening in The Dome was beautifully written, I prefer THIS opening more because it strikes. Emma is still my favorite character, and I loved that Sparks showed her softer side a bit more in this title-although it did make the ending more heart wrenching for me.I also found myself warming up to Sam a bit more. While I have always liked his character... I just liked him, but never felt any real connection to him. It seems that he was a bit more well rounded in this book. Kudos to the author on that accomplishment.All in all, the pacing is pefectly executed, the emotion leaps off the pages, and the ending is pulse pounding. Trust me, when you get this you may very yell... "Oh, come on! WTF!"

By Reading Romances (Nat) This is the second "DOME" book, so don't try to read it as a stand alone, it won't work!Book starts right were the last one left, which is a great surprise. We get some new characters and a LOT of action. Seriously, it's crazy. If you've read the DOME you won't be disappointed by this sequel - and will continue into book three wondering "What the F do they want from us?".To be continued...ARC provided by the author in exchange of an honest review.

About the Author

Lisa Fridsma is has long loved the process of teaching others to use Adobe product. She has written, edited, and designed over thirty books in the Classroom in a Book series over the last decade and a half (including books on Photoshop and After Effects), going back to her time on-staff at Adobe. She’s currently the owner of Darlington Hill Productions (Informational illustrations and publishing). Lisa lives in Bethesda, MD with her family and two above-average dogs.

 

Brie Gyncild aims to make technical information accessible to those who need it. Brie has authored The Photoshop CS5 Pocket Guide and The Photoshop Elements 8 Pocket Guide. She has also co-written The Photoshop Show Starring Russell Brown; numerous editions of the Classroom in a Book series on Photoshop, After Effects, Flash, and Acrobat; and several editions of the How to Wow series. Brie lives in Seattle with two cats and an overgrown garden.

Roberts This is an excellent sequel to Blood's Pride, and continues the story in a meaningful, well-paced, and thrilling way. I'd love to wax poetic on the plot of the book, but your time is better served by just reading it.I cannot wait for the concluding volume of this trilogy.

In this installment we travel from Shadar to Norland with the main characters. E. Manieri handles portrays her human and non-human characters skillfully and brings a new dimension to Vampire and Viking myths (which, by the way have been a little too over-used). Highly recommended....

I would have given it 5 stars if I had known it was a cliff hanger and I would have to buy the next book. I like this author's work and will probably buy the next book but I think authors should disclose so a reader can make an informed decision.

By Tucson Mom I received an advanced copy (ARC) as I am one of the writer's long time readers and I write a lot of reviews on platforms. We are not "friends" just have followed his writing here on Amazon and even though I am a middle aged female I like reading about the ships and what not on his Dugan series books. I always learn something from this man's books. There are rarely editing issues even with the ARC, and that is a good thing.The thing I really like about Bob's books is there are always strong female leads in them and not a bunch of wimpy girls. Personally, I am not a dystopia fan as that always sounded so gloom and doom and adolescent. This book was not that at all. It was actually more realistic and believable. I found myself emailing the author asking... do they really hide the president? Is the power grid that vulnerable? Are you making all this up? The answers actually surprised me and I'm heading to Costco to buy survival kits!! just kidding. Maybe.It was a good story with well developed characters. There are always so many characters in the writers novels it takes me awhile to sort them out. Bob's novels always have 3 or 4 separate plots going on that kind of converge at one point, you get the big AHA moment, so you do have to keep track. I kept flipping back to the beginning of the chapters to see what location, boat etc I was at.I would buy the next book to see how it goes. That being said, I want to clarify that it is not just a "series" as many series are still stand alone novels. This is a sort of cliff hanger. You will not know the ending or have any further future info on the characters without reading more books. I personally don't like that, but do understand these type series are like that. Further reading would be good as these are not short little novellas, but full length novels so you don't feel cheated. But, Be sure you are OK with that. So best you know up front before you buy this so that you don't get mad at the author and write bad things. CLIFF HANGER. Not just a series.Other than that I really liked it and would read more of these books. But by the time the second is out, I'd have to go back and re read the first probably as I read so many books I'll probably forget. But I would recommend it.

This book is a fascinating tale of apocalyptic proportions. A devastating electrical storm basically takes out most things electrical. The only ones with electricity have generators. But wait, can't run them without fuel. Oh wait, can't get fuel because you can't go to the store and pump it. The stores have already been ransacked by the gangs and they are working their way out of the cities to where you live.By the time most people figure out this is not just a local event, violence and mayhem have taken over. This is a story of what a few groups of people overcome to survive in this new world, where the very basics are being fought over.From the guy (what most people would call a paranoid survivalist) to the wife and 2 kids whose husband and father is a captain on a ship, this story takes you through their first month of survival.R.E. McDermott is an exceptional author whose characters come to life when you read his stories. He never over-characterizes them, but by the time you finish reading his books, you feel like you know these people. While this was a pretty long book, it was never boring, and had me up reading into the night. While the author left a segue into a future book, I would not call it a cliffhanger. I am looking forward to reading the next book McDermott comes up with.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Wow! What a spellbinding finale for the series. The Morrigan gets what she deserves and everyone else gets their HEA. By SFF Dragon 'Dragon's Dare', book three but story four brings the truly spellbinding Dragon Lore series by Ann Gimpel to it's end. And what a fantastic end it is too. I was given a copy by the author in exchange for an honest review and absolutely loved it. I'd like to say I couldn't put it down, but it took me nearly five days to read this full-length novel. What I can say is I really didn't want to put it down and fell asleep clutching it three nights in a row. This action packed paranormal romance brings together all the characters and threads from the previous books, as well as a few new ones from other mythologies, for a final battle and a grand finale that gripped me from the first page to the last and I completely ignored everything I should've been doing in favour of reading this wonderful book instead. Thank goodness for slow cookers, microwave ovens, freezers and partners who can cook.It's hard to write something that will do this terrific story justice without giving spoilers and I could go on and on, but I will say this book made me laugh and cry. I became emotionally involved with the characters and there were times when I thought a happy ending wasn't going to be possible for some of the characters. I felt their sadness, despair and heartbreak when things looked really black for them and the joy they felt when things turned out alright. I was relieved and elated when some of the bad guys found they'd been lied to by The Morrigan and either withdrew from the battle or became good guys in the war against the chaos and evil she continually perpetrated in her drive for power and control.Filled with gods and goddesses, witches, mages and seers, dragons and dragon shifters, skirmishes and full-blown battles between creatures of myth and legend fighting for the future of not only Earth and all it's inhabitants, but Fire Mountain, home of the dragons and a whole host of other worlds. There's also love, laughter, steamy bits, and happily ever afters for Arianrhod & Angus, Maggie & Lachlin, and Britta & Jonathan, but they have to walk through fire to get them, in some cases literally. Jonathan finally finds his destiny and The Morrigan gets exactly what she deserves. Life goes on but.....This is a fantastic book, and like a lot of Ann Gimpel's stories, it's not really written to be a stand alone but the last in a series, and although you could read it on it's own, there's so much of the background to the characters and their relationships in the previous books that you would be missing out on a lot, not only on great stories with their own paranormal romances, but you'd get so much more from this one if you read the books in order. I'd like to give this book more, but since 5 stars is the maximum I can give, it gets 5 very well earned stars from me. I can't recommend it highly enough.

By Karli This is a riveting, suspense filled conclusion of the battle to save Earth from total devastation at the hands of the powerful, evil, manipulative, shapeshifting Morrigan. Victory comes at a cost, however, and our band of friends and family will not go unscathed. This series has an overarching storyline that builds with each book, so it is best to start at the beginning, with Highland Secrets, the story of Angus and Airnrhod, the Virgin Huntress. Even at the end, they are still my favorite couple.Jonathan Shea grew up among witches, but barely tapped the storehouse of powers he held, largely because of watching as his father slipped more and more into the dream world. Then when his father totally disappeared when Jonathan was seventeen, he focused on computers and game design. That was until he met Britta and her bonded First Born dragon, Tarika, in book three and his life changed irrevocably. Now Jonathan is fighting to protect those he loves from the Morrigan, the Battle Crow of the Celts, who is subverting the Dragon shifter bond and collecting allies from Hades to defeat those who stand against her.

By Tammy Northington The final story is this series is about the fight to rid Earth of the Morrigan, aka the Battle Crow, & also a Celtic God. She thrives on chaos & destruction. With a trip thru Hell she gathers an assortment of allies to aid her in her plan to destroy Earth & cause mass chaos.The dragons, fed up with her, are close to shutting down Fire Mountain—the original home of all dragons. If this happens all dragon-mage shifter bonds will be broken. Another bad this is if the dragons close the gates, Fire Mountain, as well as Earth & every other world out there, would fade due to lack of magic. Essentially destroying all dragon kind. The Morrigan is thrilled with this & starts her rein of terror with finesse.The Celts find out that Arianrhod is Jonathan’s mother & tell them they need his dad Angus to help in the fight if they are to succeed. The travel back in time to get Angus where Jonathan finally accepts his role & embraces it with absolute commitment. Once Angus returns, the dragons are told about what will happen if they close off Fire Mountain & have to make a decision. They also have to decide if the Morrigan is defeated if they will help in her imprisonment since she is immortal.This is a keep you on the edge of your seat, nail biter of a story. It’s filled with action, suspense, family, betrayal & justice.

Potentially an amazing book, but with some serious flaws that need fixing By Yossu Despite the three stars, I have to start off by saying that this book got me very excited, and has the makings of a five star book. However, I think it has a couple of major issues that would need fixing before I could really recommend it. Depending on your background, these issues may not be a problem for you, in which case you would love it. Please read my review carefully before commenting or rating it, as my reasons for feeling it wasn't as good as it could be may not apply to you. That doesn't make my review unhelpful, it just means that it may not apply to you.Let me begin by pointing out that my day job consists of pulling data from a database, displaying it on a window, waiting for the user to do something with it and then saving it back to the database. Probably sounds boringly familiar to a lot of us. If so, you need to read this book to realise that some people have fun in their jobs! I read this book thinking, "Why aren't I doing exciting stuff like this?"So why only three stars, let me explain. The blurb for the book includes the following (incorrect) statement... "If you’re new to F#, this book will give you everything you need to get started." This was one of the reasons I bought it. I have looked at F# before, but never really got to grips with it. This promised to teach it to me, whilst explaining Machine Learning (ML) at the same time. Sadly, the author failed fairly badly at this, which is a shame, as it wouldn't have taken much to include a bit more explanation that would have made the F# code much easier to understand.As I read the first chapter, I was really excited. It was well explained, and opened my eyes to a whole new world of code that I had never seen. He started off with some code in C#, which was great as it was familiar, then showed the same code in F#, and explained how it worked. At this point, I was ready to give the book a five star review, and rave about how wonderful it was.As I read the second chapter, I began to have my doubts, as he threw new F# syntax and constructs in, but didn't explain what most of it was, leaving me confused as to what the code was supposed to be doing. This got worse as the book went on, to the point where I started skim-reading the F#, totally defeating the purpose of the book. Sure I could copy and paste his code, but that wouldn't help me understand ML. I want to know what he's doing and why, so I can then write my own code to suit my own situation. Without sufficient explanation of the F#, this was extremely difficult.He also didn't really explain why F# was any better for this than C#. Other than the type providers, which is a brilliant F# feature, I wouldn't see any reason why I wouldn't do exactly the same in C#. I'm sure F# has many reasons for being more suitable, but this book didn't explain them.The annoying thing is that the book is pretty slim (less than 300 pages), and it wouldn't have been a problem to add more explanation of the F#. The book could still have been a modest size, but would have been sooooooo much better. Given the high cost of the book for the number of pages, it's actually a bit cheeky that the explanations are so slim.Now obviously, if you already have a good background in F#, then the comments above won't apply to you, but the book is sold on the promise of teaching you F# as it goes along, and (in my opinion) it fails to do that.The other major issue with the book is the maths. I was please to discover that ML uses some quite interesting maths, but very frustrated that he didn't explain most of this. Sure you can go off and search around for explanations of the concepts and what they mean, but I don't need to buy a book for that.Now before anyone jumps in and points out that this isn't a maths book, and it would take too much to explain it all, you're right, but SOME explanation would have made a huge difference. For example, it's pretty easy to look up the definition of eigenvectors and eigenvalues, and find out how to compute them, but I want to know WHY they are useful here, and what they mean. Again, using this sort of thing blindly, without any understanding of what it means is not going to make me an expert in ML. I want to be able to do this stuff on my own, not just copy his code and use it without understanding it.Again, this issue may not be a problem for you if you are well versed in Bayesian statistics, liner algebra, entropy and various other non-trivial subjects, but as the majority of us are probably not knowledgeable in these areas, we need more explanation to make this book as amazing as it obviously could be.I feel bad giving the book only three stars, especially as I can't put it down, but I feel it really needs major work before it can be recommended whole heartedly. I hope the author takes these comments in the spirit they were intended, and fleshes out the book for the second edition. If so, this would be a truly brilliant book.In summary, this book could be a classic. As it is, it's compelling reading, but left me without any confidence that I would apply much of what was presented on my own.

Great Educational Tool for All Skill Levels By David I want to start with this is a fantastic book and should be in every developer's library.I have made it through most of this book so far and even as a professional developer focused on big data, machine learning and cloud technologies have learned a fair amount from it. I think one of the most important aspects of this book is the progression from simple to sophisticated with a focus on the simplest solution that solves the problem. I sit on the board of a community college and am an adjunct professor as well as industry guest speaker at several Universities. I recommend this book primarily for an intermediate audience, however I will be using it in my introduction to programming classes as well, as I believe with some guidance, this book will spark far more programming discussion and thought than the simpler topics.The book is complete with functioning code and downloadable data sets; a perfect educational tool.I know the biggest issue with Amazon reviews is knowing if the reviewer knows what they are talking about, so I will post a link to the website I run and from there you can draw your own conclusions. http://www.indiedevspot.com/

When I first bought it I said "if jimmy fallon wouldnt have wrote this, it wouldn't have even been published! There's like 20 words in the WHOLE book and at least half of those are DADA." But I bought it for father's day anyways and my daughter LOVES IT! and so does her dada! She's 18 months old and will grab the book and take it to her dada, chanting "dada" the whole way! Even when he's not home she will pick it up and search the house for him to read it. Mama isn't allowed to read it! lol Its great and definitely worth the money!**disclaimer** my baby had already started speaking before we bought the book, so her first word was technically momma,,, BUT had we got it before, i totally believe her real first word would have been dada

Religious words and phrases along with vocabulary for medical, construction, agriculture, sports and children's missions. Interesting Cultural information. Witnessing chapter with key Bible verses. Spanish songs for children or adults. Information on well-known Christian singers and their songs which can be heard in Hispanic churches. The website even has Bible stories for children and devotionals for older kids and adults which can be downloaded for free! A teacher's guide is available if someone wants to teach a group at their church or place of ministry. This is the best Christian Spanish textbook at the best price you can find! By Kevin I was looking for a book to use to teach Spanish to churches that would like to prepare its missionaries for better service when witnessing to Spanish speakers. I found it with this book!. The book lives up to its name:Spanish with a Mission. It was written with a lot of careful consideration given to the importance of culture and relevance. I am amazed at how the author packs so much into such a small book without it being overwhelming. The book helps the learner to lay a good foundation for Spanish by learning all of the relevant vocabulary and grammar structures for daily living and interaction, while intertwining vocabulary necessary for service. There are tons of exercises, activities and memory verses in each chapter. There are also songs for each chapter to reinforce listening skills along with the lyrics to help with speaking and reading.There are also all sorts of interesting tid-bits about culture and various Gospel artists (all my favorites) and things about them that I did not know!!!. When I was learning Spanish, Gospel music played and indispensable role in my ability to listen and singing along helped me to practice pronunciation and "top of the head" readiness so that I could think less and speak more. Now having graduated with a Bachelor's in Secondary Education in Spanish, I can professionally attest to this book being of excellent quality for teaching all the essentials for beginning to advanced learners.Its a Spanish textbook that functions as a work book and an excellent resource that I believe should be used in ALL Christian Schools who want to prepare their students for missions, at home or abroad. Spanish is quickly becoming more and more necessary in the United States. So I also think the book should be adopted by churches who are looking to prepare for missionary service. The back even includes praise and worship songs, a glossary of terms and irregular and radical verbs to help the learner to practice and memorize.

Ministry is Communication By Amazon Customer While I think you may need more practice than just the brief lessons in the book (I do), what this book does offer is the words and cultural notes that are helpful for a mission trip. You also have access to the online materials which includes Praise songs, Choruses, and audio materials to accompany the lessons. There is one whole chapter devoted to ministry vocabulary but there are tips and verses throughout the book. I love this book as an addition to my library and hope to use this with a group learning Spanish for summer missions.

About the Author

Todd Wilson (PhD, University of Cambridge) is senior pastor of Calvary Memorial Church in Oak Park, Illinois. He is the author of several scholarly articles and a number of books, including Daniel: A 12-Week Study and a volume on Galatians in Crossway’s Preaching the Word Commentary series. Todd and his wife, Katie, have seven children, three biological and four adopted from Ethiopia.

J. I. Packer (DPhil, Oxford University) serves as the Board of Governors’ Professor of Theology at Regent College. He is the author of numerous books, including the classic best-seller Knowing God. Packer served as general editor for the English Standard Version Bible and as theological editor for the ESV Study Bible.

Dane C. Ortlund (PhD, Wheaton College) is executive vice president of Bible publishing and Bible publisher at Crossway. He serves as an editor for the Knowing the Bible series and the Short Studies in Biblical Theology series, and is the author of several books, including Edwards on the Christian Life. He lives with his wife, Stacey, and their four kids in Wheaton, Illinois.

I especially like the Gospel Glimpses, Whole Bible Connections and Theological Soundings that are part of each lesson. The definitons of key terms is also a great asset. A great study guide that doesn't get bogged down in charts and diagrams but examines the eschatology in Daniel with regard to what it teaches us about God, our realtionship to Him, and living for God today.

The man really knew his stuff and wrote in a truly scientific argumentative style by laying out all his gathered facts first and then making his conclusions. This is truly a refreshing apologetic style.
