By Chasia Lloyd I wasn’t too sure what solarpunk was about, but wow, this is totally a thing I want to see more of. Sci-fi + fantasy with an emphasis on environmentalism and a bright future? Yes, VERY EXCELLENT.This anthology in particular was a joy to read. “Wings of Renewal” contains 22 stories with a focus on dragons in solarpunk, and it’s filled with a wide diversity of genders and sexualities and ages and relationships. Not every story grabbed me, but they all had a sparkle to them.My favorite of the bunch is Megan Reynolds’s “Petrichor”. Witches who turn into dragons and fall in love to help bring rain to a town stricken with famine? YEAHHHH. Totally great.***advance review copy provided by the editors***

What Anthologies Should Be By Christopher Jones Short stories are just right for the modern reader: long enough to get solid development of character and plot, and short enough that you're not up until 2am trying to finish one more chapter.Solarpunk is a twist on the dark -punk genres; this one is hopeful that mankind will work out how to get back in harmony with the planet. These stories cover the genre from stem to stern, with all manner of different looks at what our future might be like. There's nothing here to disappoint, except that there are only 22 stories. You want diversity? Check. You want haunting, creepy? Check. How about just plain rollicking fun? Got that, too. The editing is tight and the writing is solid. You can't go wrong here.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. You had me at "solarpunk dragons" By Kate Diamond Featured on All Our Worlds!I’ve fallen in love with solarpunk. It combines the best of nature, technology, and human cooperation in settings where harmony is valued over profit and prejudice has long ago been defeated.Solarpunk is a vision of the future that couldn’t be more different than dreary visions of war-torn dystopias ruled over by oppressive governments. It’s a return to the hopeful visions of 60s science fiction: worlds built by environmentalists and social justice activists, engineers and innovators. Societies that run on solar and wind power, where people work together instead of fighting, where anyone of any gender, race, and ability can achieve their dreams.Add dragons and witches and spaceships to that, and I’ll never look back. Not only are these stories full of imaginative worldbuilding and hope for the future, they’re also highly diverse. This collection proudly features disability, racial diversity, and queerness, and various intersections of these. Wings of Renewal hits the ground running: the first story is about a girl who uses and designs prosthetic limbs building a leg for a dragon injured by poachers. And that’s just the beginning. Following stories include all sorts of characters and settings: airships, spaceships, colony planets, farming communities; witches, shapeshifters, engineers, princesses.Three stories feature queer woman protagonists, and there are dozens of characters of color. Nobody is questioned for their skin color or gender. Instead of having to struggle against an ignorant society, they rescue dragons, save communities, and travel through space. That’s what I most love about the diversity in this collection- it’s unchallenged. The problems characters face are all related to their adventure, not to having their identities accepted. Which is as the future should be!On the critical side, I am little disappointed that none of the protagonists were nonbinary and/or transgender, though several minor NB characters did show up. The intended audience also seemed inconsistent. Some stories felt more YA or middle grade, while others felt like standard adult reading. But even with those nitpicks, the collection was amazing.Solarpunk is the perfect stage for diverse SFF. It’s a future where we’ve overcome oppression and averted ecological crisis, where working together can achieve far more than anyone working alone.

"Bookburners is sheer enormous fun! Energetic, intense, vivid prose. More soon please." --Naomi Novik, author of Uprooted and the New York Times bestselling Temeraire series "Bookburners is the breathless, hallucinogenic love child of Torchwood, the Librarians, and the Laundry Files. More soon, please." --Ian Tregillis, author of The Mechanical and Bitter Seeds "Bookburners is an exciting new take on urban fantasy. Love the premise, love the characters, love the unique (and sometimes wonderfully disturbing) spin on the dangers of magic!" --Cassandra Rose Clarke, author of The Assassins Curse "Bookburners has everything I want from episodic storytelling - strong writing, a rich premise, and memorable characters that will keep me coming back week after week." --Mike Underwood, author of the Ree Reyes Geekomancy series "Bookburners satisfies my craving for pulpy, demonic chaos with sharp writing, deliciously sinister magic, stellar black humor, and a kick-ass cast. The serialized story perfectly suits a sorcerer’s codex of baddies while the plucky Sal digs for deeper truths in her work with the Black Archives squad." --Lindsay Smith, author of the Sekret Series

She hadn't been back to Red Springs in more than nine years, and she was astonished by how little the town had changed. She'd been determined to come home a star; it hadn't happened. Swallowing her pride and returning to the town, the ranch, without having achieved her big dream was one thing. But to show up on her brother's doorstep, throw her arms around him and casually announce she could be dying was another. As a matter of fact, Letty had gotten pretty philosophical about death. The hole in her heart had been small enough to go undetected most of her life, but it was there, and unless she had the necessary surgery, it would soon be lights out, belly up, buy the farm, kick the bucket or whatever else people said when they were about to die.The physicians had made her lack of options abundantly clear when she was pregnant with Cricket, her daughter. If her heart defect hadn't been discovered then and had remained undetected, her doctor had assured her she'd be dead before she reached thirty. And so Letty had come home. Home to Wyoming. Home to the Bar E Ranch. Home to face whatever lay before her. Life or death. In her dreams, Letty had often imagined her triumphant return. She saw herself riding through town sitting in the back of a red convertible, dressed in a strapless gown, holding bouquets of red roses. The high school band would lead the procession. Naturally the good people of Red Springs would be lining Main Street, hoping to get a look at her. Being the amiable soul she was, Letty would give out autographs and speak kindly to people she hardly remembered. Her actual return had been quite different from what she'd envisioned. Lonny had met her at the Rock Springs Airport when she'd arrived with Cricket the evening before. It really had been wonderful to see her older brother. Unexpected tears had filled her eyes as they hugged. Lonny might be a onetime rodeo champ and now a hard-bitten rancher, but he was the only living relative she and Cricket had. And if anything were to happen to her, she hoped her brother would love and care for Cricket with the same dedication Letty herself had. So far, she hadn't told him about her condition, and she didn't know when she would. When the time felt right, she supposed.Sunlight filtered in through the curtain, and drawing in a deep breath, Letty sat up in bed and examined her old bedroom. So little had changed in the past nine years. The lace doily decorating the old bureau was the same one that had been there when she was growing up. The photograph of her and her pony hung on the wall. How Letty had loved old Nellie. Even her bed was covered with the same quilted spread that had been there when she was eighteen, the one her mother had made.Nothing had changed and yet everything was different. Because she was different. The innocent girl who'd once slept in this room was gone forever. Instead Letty was now a woman who'd become disenchanted with dreams and disillusioned by life. She could never go back to the guileless teen she'd been, but she wouldn't give up the woman she'd become, either. With that thought in mind, she folded back the covers and climbed out of bed. Her first night home, and she'd slept soundly. She might not be the same, but the sense of welcome she felt in this old house was.Checking in the smallest bedroom across the hall, Letty found her daughter still asleep, her faded yellow "blankey" clutched protectively against her chest. Letty and Cricket had arrived exhausted. With little more than a hug from Lonny, she and her daughter had fallen into bed. Letty had promised Lonny they'd talk later.Dressing quickly, she walked down the stairs and was surprised to discover her brother sitting at the kitchen table, waiting for her."I was beginning to wonder if you'd ever wake up," he said, grinning. The years had been good to Lonny. He'd always been handsome—as dozens of young women had noticed while he was on the rodeo circuit. He'd quit eight years ago, when his father got sick, and had dedicated himself to the Bar E ever since. Still, Letty couldn't understand why he'd stayed single all this time. Then again, she could. Lonny, like Chase Brown, their neighbor, lived for his land and his precious herd of cattle. That was what their whole lives revolved around. Lonny wasn't married because he hadn't met a woman he considered an asset to the Bar E."How come you aren't out rounding up cattle or repairing fences or whatever it is you do in the mornings?" she teased, smiling at him."I wanted to welcome you home properly."After pouring herself a cup of coffee, Letty walked to the table, leaned over and kissed his sun-bronzed cheek. "It's great to be back."Letty meant that. Her pride had kept her away all these years. How silly that seemed now, how pointless and stubborn not to admit her name wasn't going to light up any marquee, when she'd lived and breathed that knowledge each and every day in California. Letty had talent; she'd known that when she left the Bar E nine years ago. It was the blind ambition and ruthless drive she'd lacked. Oh, there'd been brief periods of promise and limited success. She'd sung radio commercials and done some backup work for a couple of rising stars, but she'd long ago given up the hope of ever making it big herself. At one time, becoming a singer had meant the world to her. Now it meant practically nothing.Lonny reached for her fingers. "It's good to have you home, sis. You've been away too long."She sat across from him, holding her coffee mug with both hands, and gazed down at the old Formica tabletop. In nine years, Lonny hadn't replaced a single piece of furniture. It wasn't easy to admit, but Letty needed to say it. "I should've come back before now." She thought it was best to let him know this before she told him about her heart."Yeah," Lonny said evenly. "I wanted you back when Mom died.""It was too soon then. I'd been in California less than two years."It hurt Letty to think about losing her mother. Maren Ellison's death had been sudden. Although Maren had begged her not to leave Red Springs, she was a large part of the reason Letty had gone. Her mother had had talent, too. She'd been an artist whose skill had lain dormant while she wasted away on a ranch, unappreciated and unfulfilled. All her life, Letty had heard her mother talk about painting in oils someday. But that day had never come. Then, when everyone had least expected it, Maren had died—less than a year after her husband. In each case, Letty had flown in for the funerals, then returned to California the next morning."What are your plans now?" Lonny asked, watching her closely.Letty's immediate future involved dealing with social workers, filling out volumes of forms and having a dozen doctors examine her to tell her what she already knew. Heart surgery didn't come cheap. "The first thing I thought I'd do was clean the house," she said, deliberately misunderstanding him.A guilty look appeared on her brother's face and Letty chuckled softly."I suppose the place is a real mess." Lonny glanced furtively around. "I've let things go around here for the past few years. When you phoned and said you were coming, I picked up what I could. You've probably guessed I'm not much of a housekeeper.""I don't expect you to be when you're dealing with several hundred head of cattle."Lonny seemed surprised by her understanding. He stood and grabbed his hat, adjusting it on his head. "How long do you plan to stay?"Letty shrugged. "I'm not sure yet. Is my being here a problem?""Not in the least," Lonny rushed to assure her. "Stay as long as you like. I welcome the company—and decent meals for a change. If you want, I can see about finding you a job in town.""I don't think there's much call for a failed singer in Red Springs, is there?""I thought you said you'd worked as a secretary.""I did, part-time, and as a temp." In order to have flexible hours, she'd done what she'd had to in order to survive, but in following her dream she'd missed out on health insurance benefits."There ought to be something for you, then. I'll ask around.""Don't," Letty said urgently. "Not yet, anyway." After the surgery would be soon enough to locate employment. For the time being, she had to concentrate on making arrangements with the appropriate authorities. She should probably tell Lonny about her heart condition, she decided reluctantly, but it was too much to hit him with right away. There'd be plenty of time later, after the arrangements had been made. No point in upsetting him now. Besides, she wanted him to become acquainted with Cricket before he found out she'd be listing him as her daughter's guardian."Relax for a while," Lonny said. "Take a vacation. There's no need for you to work if you don't want to.""Thanks, I appreciate that.""What are brothers for?" he joked, and drained his coffee. "I should get busy," he said, rinsing his cup and setting it on the kitchen counter. "I should've gotten started hours ago, but I wanted to talk to you first.""What time will you be back?"Lonny's eyes widened, as though he didn't understand. "Five or so, I guess. Why?""I just wanted to know when to plan dinner.""Six should be fine."Letty stood, her arms wrapped protectively around her waist. One question had been burning in her mind from the minute she'd pulled into the yard. One she needed to ask, but whose answer she feared. She tentatively broached the subject. "Will you be seeing Chase?""I do most days.""Does he know I'm back?"Lonny's fingers gripped the back door handle. "He knows," he said without looking at her.Letty nodded and she curled her hands into fists. "Is he…married?"Lonny shook his head. "Nope, and I don't imagine he ever will be, either." He hesitated before adding, "Chase is a lot different now from the guy you used to know. I hope you're not expecting anything from him, because you're headed for a big disappointment if you are. You'll know what I mean once you see him."A short silence followed while Letty considered her brother's words. "You needn't worry that I've come home expecting things to be the way they were between Chase and me. If he's different… that's fine. We've all changed."Lonny nodded and was gone. The house was quiet after her brother left. His warning about Chase seemed to taunt her. The Chase Brown she knew was gentle, kind, good. When Letty was seventeen he'd been the only one who really understood her dreams. Although it had broken his heart, he'd loved her enough to encourage her to seek her destiny. Chase had loved her more than anyone before or since. And she'd thrown his love away."Mommy, you were gone when I woke up." Looking forlorn, five-year-old Cricket stood in the doorway of the kitchen, her yellow blanket clutched in her hand and dragging on the faded red linoleum floor."I was just downstairs," Letty said, holding out her arms to the youngster, who ran eagerly to her mother, climbing onto Letty's lap."I'm hungry.""I'll bet you are." Letty brushed the dark hair away from her daughter's face and kissed her forehead. "I was talking to Uncle Lonny this morning."Cricket stared up at her with deep blue eyes that were a reflection of her own. She'd inherited little in the way of looks from her father. The dark hair and blue eyes were Ellison family traits. On rare occasions, Letty would see traces of Jason in their child, but not often. She tried not to think about him or their disastrous affair. He was out of her life and she wanted no part of him— except for Christina Maren, her Cricket."You know what I thought we'd do today?" Letty said."After breakfast?""After breakfast." She smiled. "I thought we'd clean house and bake a pie for Uncle Lonny.""Apple pie," Cricket announced with a firm nod."I'm sure apple pie's his favorite.""Mine, too."Together they cooked oatmeal. Cricket insisted on helping by setting the table and getting the milk from the refrigerator. As soon as they'd finished, Letty mopped the floor and washed the cupboards. Lonny's declaration about not being much of a housekeeper had been an understatement. He'd done the bare minimum for years, and the house was badly in need of a thorough cleaning. Usually, physical activity quickly wore Letty out and she became breathless and light-headed. But this morning she was filled with an enthusiasm that provided her with energy.By noon, however, she was exhausted. At nap time, Letty lay down with Cricket, and didn't wake until early afternoon, when the sound of male voices drifted up the stairs. She realized almost immediately that Chase Brown was with her brother.Running a brush through her short curly hair, Letty composed herself for the coming confrontation with Chase and walked calmly down the stairs. He and her brother were sitting at the table, drinking coffee.Lonny glanced up when she entered the room, but Chase looked away from her. Her brother had made a point of telling her that Chase was different, and she could see the truth of his words. Chase's dark hair had become streaked with gray in her absence. Deep crevices marked his forehead and grooved the sides of his mouth. In nine years he'd aged twenty, Letty thought with a stab of regret. Part of her longed to wrap her arms around him the way she had so many years before. She yearned to bury her head in his shoulder and weep for the pain she'd caused him.But she knew she couldn't."Hello, Chase," she said softly, walking over to the stove and reaching for the coffeepot."Letty." He lowered his head in greeting, but kept his eyes averted."It's good to see you again."He didn't answer that; instead he returned his attention to her brother. "I was thinking about separating part of the herd, driving them a mile or so south. Of course, that'd mean hauling the feed a lot farther, but I believe the benefits will outweigh that inconvenience.""I think you're going to a lot of effort for nothing," Lonny said, frowning.Letty pulled out a chair and sat across from Chase. He could only ignore her for so long. Still his gaze skirted hers, and he did his utmost to avoid looking at her."Who are you?"Letty turned to the doorway, where Cricket was standing, blanket held tightly in her hand."Cricket, this is Uncle Lonny's neighbor, Mr. Brown.""I'm Cricket," she said, grinning cheerfully."Hello." Chase spoke in a gruff unfriendly tone, obviously doing his best to disregard the little girl in the same manner he chose to overlook her mother.

Hard to Believe By SN WARNING - SPOILERS-WARNING - SPOILERS-WARNING - SPOILERS-WARNING - SPOILERSI enjoyed Denim and Diamonds, particularly the character of Cricket, but I have to say that the situation between Chase and Lettie made no sense at all. I get that he was afraid of her leaving him again, but the whole scene at the end with Chase basically telling her that he never said he loved her and then being such a jerk in regards to her leaving, etc., was just weird. It almost felt like the author was trying to fill up space with a strange plot twist. The whole thing about his fear of her leaving was WAY overdone. Marrying her should have been the end of it instead of throwing Chase's fear in there one more time about her leaving him. A lot of the time, especially after they were married, I just wanted to say "Get over it Chase!"Apparently the art of communication was completely lost on Chase because he feared losing her, but never talked to her about it. At some point, it was like some weird soap opera thing where no one ever talks to one another, they just make assumptions that ruin their relationships.Still, all that said, I generally love Macomber's work and I would recommend this book, but the reader will need to suspend disbelief in various parts.

There are 2 stories in this book but they both relate and coincide with each other. The first part of the book "Denim & Diamonds" was my favorite. "Denim & Diamonds" is the character developer for the next part of the book "The Wyoming Kid". They were both easy reads and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I don't want to giveaway parts of the book but if you are a romantic you will love this book. I look forward to reading my next Debbie Macomber.

This book is developed to help you in passing the Program Management Professional Certification PgMP® Exam the first time. The book is created based on the “The Standard for Program Management – Third Edition” which is registered for PMI in 2013, I will call it here the Standard Guide. This book is a complementary work to the Standards Guide; it highlights many tips, helps you to remember many important standards graphically, and provides you the sense of the exam. The graphical representation of the idea that should be communicated, helped a lot to sell the idea and to assure the positive acceptance. Passing the PgMP® Exam the first time, can be achieved through a definition of a strong proven study plan, highlighting the areas that you should consider and hold in mind, finding easy ways to remember them, and paving the road to select the right answer, after understanding a lot to questions’ tips. Furthermore, there are a lot of tips and two set of exams; 170 questions each, with enough explanation for finding the right answer. This technique makes you more ready for the exam and more acquainted with the expected tricks. This book is different from others as it is the first to be created by an author who passed the PfMP®, PgMP® and PMP® Exams, so this author knows how to pass the different exams from the PMI the first time. This book is different from the others as it contains two sets of the complete exam. So, it reflects the flavor of the questions that you are going to see on the exam. Besides, it covers different examples of each type of the commonly found questions on the PgMP® Exam model; including the regular question, table question, and question set. As a program manager, your practical experience will help you a lot to pass the exam, and it is a critical success factor of your readiness to the exam. However, in this book, you will find a major support to orient you to the examination philosophy that you will face. In some book sections, there is a written notice labeled as “Pragmatic Notice” where you find additional pragmatic hints grown-up from the long practical experience related to the same subject. This book consists of three parts: • Part 1: Standard Guide Pragmatic View and Exam Tips o Program Management o Program Management Life Cycle Domain o Program Benefits Management Domain o Program Strategy Alignment Domain o Program Stakeholder Engagement Domain o Program Governance Domain o Exam Tips o Closing • Part 2: Exam 1 (170 Question) o Exam 1 – 170 Question o Exam 1 – 170 Answer • Part 3: Exam 2 (170 Question) o Exam 2 – 170 Question o Exam 2 – 170 Answer In the following four domains: Program Benefits Management, Program Strategy Alignment, Program Stakeholder Engagement and Program Governance, I created four charts for each domain in order to highlight the domain tips, elaborate the meanings behind and connect each domain to the program life cycle phases. So, each chapter has the following charts: • The Domain itself • Domain major artifacts • Domain major activities • Domain interaction with the Program Life Cycle Please note that each question answer has the following: • Answer choice • Standard Guide Reference: this is referring to “The Standard for Program Management – Third Edition” which is a PMI Registered book • Clarification and Tips: this is the most important part of the answer that describes the reasons for selecting the right answer and eliminating the three other choices • Domain: the name of the domain that question covers • Phase or Activity: the phase or the activity of the Domain • Life Cycle Management Phase or Management Supporting Processes The Second edition contains enhancements of all the book charts for better resolution and some other editing enhancements.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Wow!! This Book simplifies the complex with visuals and tables to explain the details By Michael Kozlowski I really like this book! :)I have now bought several study materials to help prepare for the exam since I did not pass the PgMP on the 1st try. What I like about this book is that there are several visual examples and tables to help break down the complex concepts presented in the PMI Standard and ECO. The practice exam questions are very similar to the real exam. I also like how the answer key provides details on why the other question options are not valid responses. If you are serious about passing the PgMP exam, you will need several different study books. This is my #1 pick.

7 of 10 people found the following review helpful. Not a needed read, but can be fun in small doses By Shawn Winigman I picked up the companion books to the Convergence event to hopefully learn more about the upcoming DC titles that will spin out of the event. What I got was more in line with a book similar to DC vs. Marvel. Each story is told in two issues. The first issue traditionally giving a quick view of how the main character(s) are coping with the dome, followed by the second issue where combat occurs between the main character(s) and character(s) from other timelines/cities from other domes. Each book has followed a formula that has been relatively consistent.1) Main character(s) seen 1 year into living under the dome, functioning without powers.2) Entity that captured character(s) spends multiple panels giving a speech (identical to speech in Convergence when domes lifted).3) Main character(s) (traditionally) questions morality of destroying another city to preserve theirs.4) Other city attacks main character(s).5) Either the fight stops opting to be friends or someone is defeated leaving the main character(s) city ok.The one part I like about these books is seeing old characters or fringe characters again that haven’t been seen in decades. I just wish they weren’t so predictable and really gave us better background or development of the characters (there is a section in the end that gives a small explanation of the main character(s)).

I did not have to run all over town trying to find it here. Great gift for left-hander's. My daughter loves it.

By Amy I've been giving my mother these left-hander's calendars as Christmas gifts, for several years now. She loves them. This edition has two pages per week, and the spiral binding makes it lie flat, and open to the current week, if you want it to. The book is bound in such a way that the spiral is never in the way of a left-handed person writing their appointments and events on the calendar pages. We always enjoy reading the little stories about famous left-handed people, and other material about left-handedness.

By Terry Lynn Rickards I get this for our "lefty" in the family, and he uses it constantly, so now he expects it at Christmas time! He loves reading all the little "lefty" facts in the pages as well. So handy for a young father with his own business to help him keep track of what is happening every day.

Review

“The follow-up to the first book, Ink Mage, gives readers a more in-depth perspective of the characters and the realm they live in. The action is just as fast, the characters are just as colorful, and the violence is just as stabby.” —Amazing Stories

By Amazon Customer 2.5/5 But I'll round to 3After reading Ink Mage, I couldn't wait for the sequel to come out, and so perhaps my hopes were a bit high for this book, but in the end I'm still left with disappointment. This felt like the first half of a good book, where it is setting up the pieces and slowly building the action and tension. Then it's over. There was no climax in this book, let alone resolution, no problems were solved and many were introduced, and so at the end the book just left a bitter taste in my mouth.*Spoilers*I obviously misinterpreted the blurb, because when it said "Rina’s only chance at stopping them is to gain new tattoos that will increase her powers beyond anything she has known before" I assumed she would actually, you know, GET SOME TATTOOS. Instead, for a book titled "The Tattooed Duchess" the duchess in question gets remarkably little air time, and makes no real progress except for fixing a few bureaucratic issues in her duchy. So if I were asked to summarize this book it would be "Everyone went their different ways, and didn't get much done. Except for the main character, she got herself captured."

6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. I really enjoyed the first book in this series By D.F. Marsh I really enjoyed the first book in this series, Ink Mage, and reviewed it with 5 stars. I loved the concept, the main character, and the story-teller’s colorful language, so I was looking forward to the second book. Now having finished the Tattooed Duchess, I still think that the author has a wicked imagination, but I wasn’t half as engaged as I was in the first book, and that’s stating it mildly. Way too many subplots, way too much time away from the main character, and too much set-up for book 3, which I’ll have to wait God knows how long for, kept me on the fringes as an outsider rather than in the adventure. I stopped caring, and only kept reading because of my appreciation of Ink Mage, and I’d hoped the installment would at least be self-contained, that it would have a conclusion. But no. The book abruptly ends, not even on a cliffhanger. It finishes with a ton of unfinished business. As a reader you’re just left hanging. Sorely disappointed.

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. My new favorite writer. By Oscar Gordon I'm not usually a fantasy fan, but I enjoy Victor Gischler's writing so much I thought I'd give it a try. The man is incapable of writing a boring word! He's written straight thrillers, punk thrillers, and post-apocalyptic thrillers in addition to the Ink Mage books and they're all terrific. Do yourself a favor and read this, then read everything else he's written. You won't be disappointed.

He is wealthy enough that he can afford the new serum that will make him immortal. He is somewhat uneasy at some little quirks he finds about the serum, but willing to risk it for immortality. Eden's Serum starts off with a bang and the thrill ride never stops. Adam finds that there is much more to the serum than he could have guessed. Fortunately, he find some help from his new assistant, the lovely Evelyn.I received this book as an ARC from the author for an honest review. It still needed polishing at that point, but I found it to be an interesting story about nano-technology and the future.

About the Author Best Selling author, screenwriter, and developer for Blizzard Entertainment, EA Games, and Chair Entertainment -- Cameron Dayton has charted flights through the worlds of Warcraft, Diablo, Starcraft, Undertow, Advent Rising, Minions Paradise and beyond. Etherwalker, Cameron's debut novel, is a genre-bending science fiction and fantasy adventure for the young adult, adult, and discriminating cyborg reader. Cameron weaves all of the dynamic action and vivid world building of those hit video games into a dystopian & post-apocalyptic future where a technological singularity has thrown mankind spiraling back into its medieval past for an altogether awesome alternative history. Etherwalker has all the hallmarks of a truly epic fantasy, with the pacing of a techno thriller. It is a colorful journey filled with swords, sorcery, monsters, mayhem and metaphysical fantasy.

Lee An impressive debut novel from the author of one of my favorite short stories, which I think fans of the sci-fi and heroic quest genres are sure to enjoy. The story revolves around Enoch, the last of a once powerful race of technomancers as he seeks his destiny amidst the post-apocalyptic ruins of a high-tech earth. Along the way he encounters a host of delightfully imaginative biologically-tailored and cybernetically-enhanced terrors that inhabit the world of the Silicon Covenant.I thought the pacing was good, action was great, and the characters were memorable. I particularly liked Ric the undead ex-rock & roller from a long forgotten era. At times the world-building felt a little forced, but I suspect it is because the author has a much larger story planned for us, of which this is but the opening act. I'm looking forward to seeing what comes next.I've been reading sci-fi and fantasy for many years and found it an altogether enjoyable read.

6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. but I really enjoyed this book By Michael R. Green Ok I'm a nerd, so I'm biased when reading science fiction and fantasy, but I really enjoyed this book. It started out a bit slow, but the way the author built suspension as the plot marched forward, and the way the characters unfolded, it felt more like enjoying a long, three course meal than just waiting an hour to be seated (I like food too). While some reviewers felt that the 'monsters' and world felt too much like a video game, I really enjoyed the fresh take on what makes a monster, the way nanotechnology fused with runaway, radiation-infused biology and genetic engineering; it took the trite, conventional monster and genetically-engineered human/cyborg and combined them into something that felt unique, and I think gives the author leeway into more creativity. At first I felt like the main characters abilities, while exciting, we're fairly limiting in a world that seemed to teem with characters much more powerful, but by the end of the book it felt like there was a lot of potential to go in some exciting directions. I also like the fact that the author didn't make the main character too powerful, I feel like there was a good balance maintained. Overall there was enough plot revealed to be interesting, with enough mystery to make me anxious to find out more in the next book. The action was plentiful enough that I didn't get bored, and I enjoyed the balance of raw, physicality and mental ability. While I would have rated it a 4 star book a quarter of the way through, by the end I'm just desperately wishing the sequel were out already!

The story was a refreshing blend of scifi and fantasy elements set in the far off future. a distant future where "the bombs have already fallen and a bit of magic has returned to the land". Although in this far flung adventure much of the "magic" is the product of remnants of long forgotten technology.Fans of diverse mythologies such as the vampire hunter D novels and movies, as well as adventure time should find this book enjoyable!
