I'm not saying the info in this tiny digital pamphlet is incorrect,or completely useless,but there's precious little of it,and what there is is incomplete. You can do a whole lot better by simply googling "home defense preps" or something like that,and reading a little from any of the about 6 million sites that pop up.The stuff in this thing is common sense stuff that you already know,believe me,or you wouldn't be interested in this in the first place.No offense meant to the author.Like I said,the info is not useless or incorrect,it's just scant.

In fact it is a good quick survey of the issues to consider in securing your home. But it is very short, and hence short on practical info. Worth a couple bucks for someone who has never read anything about home security/defense, but that's all.

The stories and data on burglaries and home invasions are a reminder By Terrie When our home was burglarized (we didn't have insurance) they took everything good we spent ten years acquiring. A financial set back for sure. This book discusses protecting your home whether your home or not as a way to protect yourself. I like the added links in back for self defense, as a reminder. I thought it was too short and could have had more depth in how to camouflage a house in the country, how to find a good self defense instructor or gun class. What about animals or livestock protection? Otherwise a nice, quick,easy read with simple ideas like wood dowel on the slider, thorny shrubs under windows, etc...

About the Author Dan Abnett is the author of the Horus Heresy novels The Unremembered Empire, Know No Fear and Prospero Burns, the last two of which were both New York Times bestsellers. Sandoc With Honour Guard, Dan Abnett continues his Gaunt's Ghosts series with another tightly-written, action-packed war novel. the fourth book in the series, Honour Guard actually is the beginning of the Sabbat Crusade story campaign. The first three novels in the series introduces Colonel-Commissar Ibrahim Gaunt and his Tanith First and Only Regiment.This time around certain high-ranking elements in the Sabbat Crusade Army has blamed Gaunt and his Ghosts for a battlefield loss that was orchestrated by some behind-the-scenes. Honour Guard is pretty much a story about redemption and spiritual discovery for Gaunt and the troops in his regiment. We actually see Gaunt brought low by outside forces, most of which are actually officers in the Army who are jealous of his sudden rise to power and popularity amongst the regular troops. It was refreshing to know that Gaunt was human after all and not some super-commander who could do no wrong and who could brush off any drawbacks with aplomb.This time around, Abnett's battle scenes are more centered towards fighting between armored units with infantry in support. Again, Abnett must have good knowledge of military history because the battles leading up to the final stand in the end is very similar to the armor battles which occurred on the roads of the Dutch countryside during the Allies ill-advised Operation Market Garden.Honour Guard is a worthy successor to the first three Gaunt novels that precedes it. Here's to hoping that Abnett continues is hot streak. I highly recommend.

More great Gaunt action By Doc Honour Guard finds the notorious regiment of Gaunt's Ghosts embroiled in yet another of the many campaigns to liberate a stretegic cluster from the clutches of Chaos.On one of the holiest worlds to the crusade, Gaunt had been charged with the reclamation of the holiest shrine. But the forces of Chaos are well-prepared, and Gaunt suffers a disgrace. Basically broken in terms of military command, Gaunt is given one last mission to redeem himself before beign forcibly retired and allowing the Ghosts to be dispersed. He is to seek and recover a most important and ancient artifact.This novel, as with all the Ghosts books to date, is filled with great amounts of carnage and violence. But this is the depiction of a most unprecendented war, one in which the enemy has only a regard for madness and suffering, as well as a hatred of all that is stable. And against this we have a single great leader, not only fighting the enemy, but dealing with jealousy and prejudice from different units and superior officers. As he has done in the three previous books, Abnett lets us see new sides to almost all the characters. This is a great talent, as the personalities never stagnate, and it keeps the reader interested. I highly recommend this book, not only to Warhammer 40k players, but to any that like well-written science fiction.

They'll need help but I'll never tell from whom! No spoilers from me! Well maybe just a few little hints. Oh my goodness! First, I'd like to start by saying that up until now, the first four books of the series have all been standalone novellas with nice, tidy, happy endings but Books Five and Six do end with somewhat of a cliffhanger. But never fear, Book Seven not only gives us Sander and Morgan's story. it also finishes the series; so rest assured, everyone gets their happy ending. Well, almost everyone - there is one casualty but you'll just have to read the book to find out what happens! I'll never tell! Kim Fox has pulled out all the stops and raised the bar again with Sander and Morgans' story, the latest release in her amazingly popular Smokejumpers Werebear Series. And I do mean that quite literally because she has certainly saved the best for last! I'm always amazed by the range of emotions I experience while reading a Kim Fox story. She never fails to evoke a perfect mixture of sadness, heartache, humor, happiness and yes, even anger over an injustice suffered by one of the characters. Throughout this entire book I was sniffing, snuffling, sobbing, snorting, snickering, smiling, laughing, chuckling, giggling, cackling, guffawing, frowning, glowering, scowling, exploding with anger and screaming like a banshee but by the end I was grinning like an dope with tears of happiness and joy streaming down my cheeks. Some writers are born with a natural ability as a storyteller and Kim Fox has been blessed with this talent in spades. She always knows exactly how to tug on our heartstrings with heartbreaking angst, tickle our funny bone with outrageous humor and warm our hearts with sweet heartwarming romance and fated love. It's hard to play favorites with any of Kim's books but I have to admit, this entire series is hands down one of the best I've ever read and that's saying a lot since I've read too many to count. There are just some things a good paranormal romance needs to tip the scales over into the great category. Of course it has to be well written but it also has to include adventure, action, danger, drama, suspense, humor, conflict and of course, romance and a great plot. Combine those nine elements with a wonderfully diverse cast of engaging, endearing, hilarious and sexy as sin characters, and you have a deliciously sweet, completely captivating, seriously sexy, fabulously funny and delightfully entertaining read! And this book has it all! Oh, and the hot sex doesn't hurt either. Once I started reading, I simply couldn't stop! And yes, it's that good! So, are you ready to be entertained? Heated attraction, fiery passion, heartbreaking angst, side-splitting humor, sweet romance and even some dreamy sex-you bet! I still like the first on best of all. I like that each book has an HEA ending and there are no cliff hangers. This is the last in the series.Morgan is a girl who can take care of herself. Our first introduction to her in this story we see it. Then we see the potential problem between Sander and Remy. After a while I realized I didn't care about Morgan. She was little annoying. I disliked Remy. Sander I am on the fence. I was hoping for her with Remy so Sander can find a better woman. The finale in this overall great series and I am sad that it has come to an end. This author throughout this series found a perfect blend of romance and passion, action and humour that I thoroughly enjoyed every part of their journey as a crew and as their individual bears. So finally Sander decided to take on this brave mission along with another member of the other crew the Hudson boys have joined forces with! I am hoping that that crew gets its own series also as there looks to be some delicious character potential there too! So the boys set out on their intelligence gathering mission not expecting to run into the red haired spitfire named Morgan who without realising it ends up having both of the bears bond with her. Although she does find one of them pretty cute she fights her feelings and sticks to her own plans but then her bear decides to have other ideas. As they all come together with the crews again and form a plan to claim back the Shifter Organisation for the reason it was made. To have the interests of the shifters at heart, hearts break, lives are lost and things will never be the same again. This fantastic finale shows the skill that this author has to incorporate passion and romance at a time of action and devastation, humour and emotion so that nothing is left and you are so caught up in the story you feel as though you are there. A great read and an overall great series and a credit to this talented author. Happy Reading!

About the Author Kenneth Macleod was born in Glasgow in 1972. Gripping, ambitious first novel By Keris Nine From the title, the cover and the minute detail that is gone into the particulars of the narrator's physical condition, his mood and his state of mind at the start of the novel, it seems quite clear that "the incident" in question is going to be related to Craig's occupation as a lifeguard on a German beach. It is certainly an intriguing starting point for what is to follow, but there are other significant "incidents" that come up in the reflection over the course of that one fateful day in 1988 which give Kenneth Macleod's first novel a much wider dimension.There's the question first of all of how a twenty-year old young man from Scotland has come to be working as a lifeguard on a beach catering to a German children's summer camp. This is covered in a traumatic story relating to Craig's grandfather's experiences during the Second World War as a sailor working on an oil tanker and a significant incident that marked his life forever. There is however another incident covered at greater length by fellow lifeguard Gerd, who relates his extraordinary experience, equally as traumatic, as a former East German citizen whose involvement with a Stasi operation has led to him coming across into the West at a time when Berlin and Germany are still divided.These stories seem tangential and take up a substantial portion to the book without being directly related to the central incident in question. The whole novel is so well-written and measured in its approach however that not a moment of the fine detail in any of the stories can be considered unnecessary or uninteresting. Rather, the detail becomes fascinating for the impact that any one of them can have on a situation that can ultimately entirely alter the course of a life. Individually, each of the three very different main stories in the book are gripping to read, but the real quality of The Incident is in how Kenneth Macleod - this is his first novel - thematically binds them together.In each case, the traumatic experience undergone by each of the protagonists - Craig, his grandfather, Gerd - opens up an awareness of what the narrator/author describes as "the blackness that surrounds us", and into which we can be plunged at any moment and when least expected. More than this however, the author also tries to consider how, having become aware of the vastness of this darkness, one can live with this knowledge. The place of God, literature and even, rather self-reflexively, the nature of the writing of the book itself is broached, which feels a little forced and over-reaching, but this is nonetheless, a hugely ambitious first novel - involving, wonderful to read, with a very distinctive outlook of its own.

The principle of the story was good, but the author seemed to go off on flighty paths too frequently. I skipped a whole chapter as i thought it was too detached from the original purpose of the story.

There are no predictable zombies outside or anything like that, it basically comes down to s*** hitting the fan and greedy politicians trying to take all the power from the people and keep them locked away doing their bidding. I liked that the world outside the Wall seemed mostly well adjusted with groups of people living together in small communities with some form of leadership, but there still being bandits causing threats and of course the big bad scary Creepers and giant animals that roam the forest. I also really enjoyed all the action in the book, there was always something happening and Valenti did so well writing fight and flight scenes I could feel my whole body tensing and my mind wanting to race as fast as the group was racing through a forest or something. It was just enough detail for it to come alive in my imagination, and my mind fill in the blanks.I liked the characters in the book too, I thought they were well developed. I could totally see myself being BFFs with Laurie, though I’d probably find Alicia a bit intimidating, I mean a totally gorgeous girl who’s a total bad arse with weapons and fighting? Her character is an easy going and likeable one though. Maya, I don’t really understand her random angry outbursts. Sometimes they seemed to work because the reader got to see what she was thinking about that got her so worked up, but other times it just seemed kind of random, so I’m still trying to work out what her trigger is. In saying that, I’d rather an occasional random angry outburst than a main character who is a mopey crybaby; Maya is far too strong to be emo for no good reason.Overall this was a great dystopian story, and though targeted for young adults, it was written maturely and without the childish drama that something like the Vampire Diaries has which is wonderfully refreshing. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading post-end-of-the-world stories, it was really easy to read and I just could not put it down.

By Susan Berry Chained by Susanne Valenti was an entertaining read about what life might be like if Al Gore is right about global warming and certain experts are right about genetically-modified foods. Scarcity, a contaminated world toxic to humans, and a powerful governing body that leaves no margin for error, no space for creativity, and controls nearly all movement within its sphere of influence are some of the elements of the world of the City behind the Wall in Valenti's narrative. Chained is similar to Hugh Howey's Wool, Amber Garr's Waterproof and Edan Lepucki's California.The protagonist, Maya and her closest friend Taylor are found to have broken a few of the City's rules. As their punishment, they are sentenced to be messengers for the City's army that is fighting in the Subwars. The purpose of the wars remained unclear to this reader. Long story short, Taylor is injured by a bullet and Maya and Taylor along with a warden named Laurie, who has come to their rescue find themselves facing certain death until an unlikely hero, Coal gets them to safety. That safety though is to the world that is thought to be contaminated, a place where humans cannot survive for long. The City has instilled this belief in the minds of the Walls' inhabitants to keep them under their thumb. From there, the three, Maya, Taylor, and Laurie find that life is not as they have been told. It is still a world of scarcity and danger, but there is also beauty, friendship, and security in certain settlements. Ultimately, it is a battle between these settlements and the City. It is this struggle that drives the narrative to its conclusion.I liked the characters Laurie, Hunter, Coal, and Coal's sister, Alicia, who is one tough chick. They have the capacity to survive whatever life throws at them. As far as the protagonist, Maya and her friend Taylor, I cannot say I was impressed. Taylor to me seemed like he was skating by on his father's reputation. Think of a spoiled not-so-rich kid with his father to get him out of whatever scrape Taylor manages to get into. Of course, it does not work in the end. It never does. Eventually, the consequences catch up. Maya was out of her league and it showed. I counted seven times in which her foolhardy actions and ineptness almost cost someone their life. Maya can shoot better than average; that is about all. I can shoot; come with 15 feet of me and see. That doesn't mean that I would be any good in combat, which is essentially where Maya finds herself in both of the worlds. Maya to me did not grow as a character. She was morally compromised when she flat out lied to Coal by pretending to not know if he had killed the King of the Creepers (deformed monster race of humans with animal-like qualities). Prior to her conversation with Coal, she had seen the king breathing as he lay on the ground after the battle between him and Coal. Then she decides to keep to herself that the King is not really a Creeper. Is Maya an artifact of the City's teachings? Maybe.Valenti's description-world building was excellent with gorgeous scenery and realistic scenes (except for Laurie, a trained warrior sticking the barrels of her guns into the dirt). The pacing was good and the story line was excellent. I had a few quibbles with some clunky language, issues with grammar and editing, and placement and/or necessity of one or two scenes. I started following her blog awhile back and saw that she was giving out a few ebook ARCs. Seeing that it’s YA and a dystopian, I jumped at the opportunity and sent her an email. Holy cow. I have loved the book ever since I started reading it. I spent several nights staying up well past a teachers bedtime reading this book. It’s fast paced and changes so much! Nothing in it is stagnant.The setting in the beginning of the book feels very similar to Divergent. But it changes SO MUCH. It’s a wild, whirlwind adventure throughout the entire novel. The main character Maya starts off in the city, but then ventures outside the walls, and then gets sent to Subwar, which is basically like the battleground outside of the city. From here, you think she is going to have to fight to survive with her friend Taylor so that they can eventually get back to their lives in the city, tucked safely behind The Walls. Everything outside of the walls is “contaminated.”During their training for Subwar, they meet a few unlikely friends (another criminal and a Warden) and they make a few enemies. In the beginning of the book you, as the reader, think this is the plot of the novel. That they are supposed to survive Subwar and the enemies they make there. Ohhhhhh no. Hold your horses. You’re barely to the rising action of this book.I don’t want to spoil the rest. It’s definitely a novel you need to purchase to enjoy the full plot and climax. But you meet some outsiders who Maya comes to depend on and befriend. Through her friendship with them, she begins to question the world she knows. She starts to contemplate where she really belongs. Valenti did an awesome job of character and relationship building. I love the sense of camaraderie between Maya and Coal, Maya and Alicia, and Maya and Taylor, Coal and Alicia, Laurie and Maya, etc. Each character has their own faults, but it makes them all the more loveable and relatable. They all mesh well together and build each other up.Chained also reminded me a lot of the Studio Ghibli film Princess Mononoke and the television show The Walking Dead. As a reader I was able to make so many world connections with this novel. I love how it was an entity of itself but brought together all of these different aspects from other films and novels that I find interesting. Someone needs to pick this series up and make it into a show or movie. It would be HUGE.I gave this novel 5/5 stars on Goodreads.

It's something that people should know, because danger and disasters strike when you least expect them. This books is a very simple guide to survival tricks and techniques, in the sense that it's easily explained. Kudos to the author for a very good work done. Anybody willing to learn a little bit of survival should give it a try.

It helps you to learn some basic things you can do to use everyday things as emergency tools. It definitely is a good read and a great piece of information that you won't regret reading. However, I didn't know much about these sites until I received this book. The Crowdsourcing book is more of a quick start guide to all types of various crowdsourcing type websites. Crowdsourcing it not something new; it was first know back all the way in 1885 (it was a way for the US to fund the Statue of Liberty!)In today's modern age the internet is a quick way to share your idea with millions of people and reach them quickly. There are two different types of crowding; crowdsourcing is ultimately for a business that you're not sure if it's going to be received well, while crowdfunding is asking your audience to help fund something. Example used in the book is an artist created a crowdfunding page to help promotional, recording and touring costs.This guide is a must read for anyone who's looking to start a business and needs some help and advice on what service and types of funding options they want to receive. This is perfect to keep as reference BEFORE you launch your next big idea. Overall, this is not a book I would read on regular basis but it's packed with lots of helpful information for those who are looking to start their own business and getting "backed" by regular consumers across the world.**I received this book at a discounted price for my honest, and unbiased review.**

By Nicole Grube As someone who doesn't really have any reason to use crowdsourcing, this was surprisingly an enjoyable read. It taught me more than just how to raise funds for companies and programs. It teaches you the in's and out's of the individual ways to raise the funds you may need. This book teaches you how these companies started and how they came to be as big as they are. It is also very well written and immediately draws you in. I was already aware of Kickstarter but this showed me so many other companies that are essentially similar to your needs in raising money for your company or program of interest. I was thoroughly pleased with how this book explained everything! I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is interested in learning more about crowdsourcing or using it themselves. This will explain everything you want to know. I received this book in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion. This opinion is 100% my own.

Book three made me cringe at how Kia started to lose her spunk and promised strength. Book four has sadly disappointed me. We went from a strong self reliant child, to a young woman that has basically become a walking punching bag. Kia is supposed to have this great magical power. But she gets steam rolled easily by everyone. She has lost the spunk and iron will she had in the first book. Now she lets them continuously humiliate her, break vows made to her, take advantage of her, and not a single person does anything to stand up for her. Not even herself anymore. Her entire relationship with Eva has been destroyed. No longer is it equals and friends. Its some weird domination/submission mixture. Will I read the next one? Maybe. Is it as certain with the way the story has progressed, not really.Would I recommend the series.... that's a lot harder to answer. I would the first and second. Even the third wasn't that utterly horrible. But with the constant knock downs Kia gets in the fourth with absolutely nothing to balance the bad and humiliation, and I am sorry, but her 'relationship' with Eva as it stands, is bad in my book, makes it a lot harder for me to continue recommending. Its too.... abusive. And Kia is way too accepting of the abuse.

I checked the author's Facebook and found out he was half way through the fifth book but he did mention he expected it to be release this year. *fingers crossed!*This book was my favorite out of four books so far. It had more adventure and there were romance involved between two fine women. The relationship grew as I read. New powers were discovered. I still didn't understand why it was necessary for Kia to be "torture" over and over at the games. I did see the reason, but didn't see the necessary for it. I adored Eva a lot in this novel. I got to learn more about who she was. Seeing them being a roommate still was a great feeling.The most insane scene was well written. I could say more but it would be too spoiler. But I can tell you there were some dark people out there and it was up to Kia and the team to find them. I just love the series. Again, highly recommended because it really follow Kia's journey since book one. She started out as a twelve years old girl and this novel; she was now nineteen years old. It was awesome to see how she grew since book one.

This series is just amazing and my favorite! The journey you take with Kia there is little choice but to become invested. There are only a couple of authors out there right now that have the amazing ability to bring you along for the ride. Larson makes you feel every emotion! That is one hell of a gift...it is not just a story you watch happen. He brings you into the story sometime's kicking and screaming along side the characters. I can not wait to see what happens next in this series

Life is too short for bullshit. I'm 33 and my tits drop half an inch a year. Someday very soon, ladies, you and I are going to be whatever fetish comes after "cougar," unable to wear shirts without sleeves, and full of cell phone cancer. It is our obligation to be honest with ourselves about who we really are and what we really want. Which more often than not is someone else's email password.

From Booklist By about 30 pages in, Mollen has resorted twice to the “there are two types of “___s” gambit (in addition to simply calling others, “the type who”) and tried to shock-jock the reader’s pants off by declaring her anorexic temptations scarier than a concentration camp, comparing a bad romance to a “fiery plane crash into a tall building,” and deciding that a former boyfriend (unfindable on social media) killed himself. And she’s anorexic and bulimic in somewhat graphic detail. And she has a long way to go to becoming a current L.A. writer, actress, and (per the jacket copy) “one of the funniest women on Twitter.” She can be funny, but her shticks and tics are lazily apparent. And for her worldview (and memoir) to work, everyone she deals with has to be missing a bolt or two as well (e.g., “All the Best Men Are Either Gay, Married, or Your Therapist” and “Nobody Wants to Be Your Fucking Bridesmaid” and “You Were Molested”). She is hiply raunchy, raunchily hip; add her to that list and purchase according to demand. --Eloise Kinney

27 of 30 people found the following review helpful. I really wanted to like this book By Minkyfoxtail I really wanted to like this book, but guess what? I've read it. It's all her blogs from Playboy's Smoking Jacket. Jenny seems like she'd be so much fun to know, but after the eighth story of her narcissism and "quirkiness", mixed in with what a stalker she appears to be, I got over it real quick. Just google her name along with the Smoking a Jacket and you've saved yourself ten bucks.

It was recommended by Jen Lancaster and I love Jen so i was expecting to love this but no such luck. I suspect half of the stories stories was either made up or vastly exaggerated,but only because i refuse to believe that people can be so self absorbed.

Who hopes they get raped or molested because they need more attention in their lives. I truly hope she finds all the negative drama she is looking for. Someone must have paid a lot of money to get this published for her. I can't tolerate people who cause problems and drama for others just because they are boring and their life is boring because no one wants to spend any time with them. Waste of time and waste of my mind!
