In this companion story to Numbers Game, Chan Norwell comes from the perfect citizen family. His mother is chief of the city monitor force, his brother an all-star, and his sister a prodigy--which leaves little wiggle room for a nobody like Chan. He is determined to have his time in the spotlight at last. But he doesn't expect things to go so horribly wrong. Alone, dishonored, and humiliated, Chan can only see one way out. When he meets Maizel, a brilliant redhead determined to follow in her mother's suicidal footsteps, he sees his life for what it really is . If Chan can find the courage to try one more time--if he can save Maizel--maybe there's a chance he can also save himself. "Gripping. I loved it!" -Geneen, Reviewer

A worthy addition to the series By Ms. Just One More Book Having been raised in a family of high greens, where your number is everything, Chan can't help but feel like a huge disappointment. His parents are highly successful. His older brother: a natural all star champion khel player who can memorize material for a test in just ten minutes. His little sister: a child prodigy, who would already be surpassing him in school had his parents not held her back until his graduation. Chan constantly seems to fall short of his family's expectations. When rating day comes, it is almost prophetic that he received the mediocre score of a yellow. Having brought shame and dishonor to his family, he feels his only choice is to jump from the highest city building in NORA. But once there, he meets another jumper ready to follow in the suicidal footsteps as her mother. Together, will they both meet their doom, or find something to live for?I actually loved this short story and thought is was a worthy addition to this series. It brought out a whole new element to the supposed utopian society. A definite harsher side to things: what happens when you try best, yet your best still isn't good enough? Chan was a relatable character that you could easily feel empathetic towards. I would love to see more of Chan's storyline interwoven into future installments of this series!

I love how this short shows in more depth the dark side of the numbers game world. I found myself identifying with Chan and I think I'd enjoy reading more about him in another short or in other books in the series. At first this story seems predictable, but it continues to surprise you over and over again until the very end. A great read, and a wonderful taste of Rebeccas Rodes writing and world she created.

I loved Chan as a character and my heart ached for him! I loved his perspective and I was so worried for him the entire story. The ending was totally unexpected and beautiful. I'm counting down the days until Numbers Ignite releases!
