3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. A disappointing finale that is cliched, ridiculous, and much more 'graphic' than 'novel'. By Naomi F I was really trying to love this series, and I thought the first two volumes were satisfying, compelling, and made me anxious to see the conclusion, despite the notably sparse dialogue at times. This last volume's ratio of words to graphics borders on the ridiculous. Often throughout the last four issues, there are huge two page spreads depicting an admittedly beautifully rendered scene, often with no words at all. It's more like an art book than a story at times. In fact, I don't think it's exaggerating at all to say there are more words in the foreword and afterword than the entirety of the volume. When a work is heavily advertised as Clive Barker's creation, such stretched out dialogue and narration grows tiresome (not to mention how often Wick's dialogue is cliched mega-villain garbage). Worst of all, after all the praise heaped on the ending by other authors quoted in the collection, I was shocked to see it play out with the same boring, cliche conclusions about humanity doing the best it can, as well as (literally) deus ex machina endings that don't make any sense. The final frame and its implications have been done a thousand times before, and often better. Given the ending, I can't recommend this series to others.

It had such potential from the first volume and onward. Wick was kinda weird but interesting, he was like a child with too much power and insane, I can get behind that, makes for an unpredictable villain. The conclusion was 6 pages, very rushed. It feels like it was going to be this big story elaborate story - a god comes back and reeks havoc and the world reacts. That plot line could go on pretty endlessly. It was cut so short, like the writers were just like "Nah, I'm done" and ended it. Very disappointing. Artwork is nice though, so that was good.
