But this is not what made me enjoy the read By Max After reading the back cover I expected writing laced with humor and prayed this book would deliver. And it delivers witty humor to the max! But this is not what made me enjoy the read. Initially I was apprehensive that the humor might take away from the overall story, but by end of the first chapter I knew nothing was lost. On the contrary, the plot contains more depth and suspense than I thought possible for a book riddled with good laughs. Whenever I read an author who can walk this tightrope, it is a sure sign that they hold a gift many writers work their lives to discover. It also signals that this is an author who doesn't write stories but creates worlds, worlds which I will forever enjoy discovering.If you think you may enjoy this book, give it a shot because you will not go wrong!It is also only 7 dollars. How can you go wrong with that?

Great first novel By Valerie C I wasn't sure what to expect when I started reading Apostate Konstantin, but from the first chapter I was hooked.In a post nuclear world a church dictated state is hell bent on eradicating the world of witches and maintaining absolute power.Beyond being a fantasy novel the story delves into love, friendship and loss. Through every step of Konstantin's journey you feel his internal struggle between what he has known and discovering his own identity.The cast of characters not only helps move the story along but are well developed. Characters like James and Felix add comic relief at times, while Deirdre and Brita were perfect foils to Konstantin's character.I hope to read more from the author and possibly a part two.

The story was engaging, and there were numerous characters that elicited strong emotional responses in me as I read (Solomon being the strongest, I hate that guy). Despite the somewhat dark world the story takes place in, there are also plenty of moments of humor throughout the book. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes dystopian novels, magic, or fantasy novels. Compared to many other books I have read in the fantasy genre (my personal favorite), this book is a fast-paced and relatively quick read (more comparable to young adult dystopian novels in that regard). I would be interested in a sequel, and I look forward to future work by this author.
