I'm Indian, and Indians probably will understand this book better than anyone else, because it's the culture we grow up in. The overbearing mother, the comparatively cooler father, the marriage that they're always talking about and the sibling that saves your ass no matter what...It probably sounds similar to lots of American things, and in many ways, it is, but it many more ways, it's not (*winks to Indian Friends*)And I'm not saying it's happened to me- the whole being forced to get married thing (yet) I'm only sixteen, but I know it will, and plus I've seen it happen countless times to my older cousins, so...But, now, I must get to the book! The first chapter is extremely extremely weird, and I was a little put off, but then the book got SIMPLY BRILLIANT! Set it small town rural India, to a major Indian city to New York City- the culture shock, the atmosphere, the Hindi, the all Indian jokes, the absolutely swoon worthy Rihaan Metha, the storyline- everything! It's like I can't describe it- but The Accidental Wife had me HOOKED! I loved how Naina and Rihaan slowly fell for each other, how things kept happening thatnmept them from being together, it was so realistic, how they let their pride get in the way of things, how they decided to stick to their stubborn ideals despite the obvious love and desire they were feeling! All I can say is- for an insight into Indian Society- READ THIS!

He is a neurosurgeon who is completely dedicated to his work and has no time or inclination for love or marriage. But Rihaan’s mother, like most Indian mothers, has plans and dreams for his marriage. She even has some ‘appropriate’ proposals ready at hand for him. When she finally entraps Rihaan to agree to get married, Rihaan puts up a condition that he would be the one to choose his future wife. After some thoughts and research, Rihaan finds Deepika online and gets married to her in a rushed ceremony in India. But on his wedding night, he has a surprise waiting for him in form of Naina…Rihaan comes across as this typical workaholic in the beginning whose requirements in a bride seems almost offensive – he doesn’t want a life partner as such, he could do with a robot. Fate has something for him in store that changes his life forever. Naina on the other hand feels a bit naïve in the beginning but slowly her character unfolds and grows so much that one cannot help but like her. These two people are poles apart, yet brought together by a cruel joke. From strangers to friends to lovers to strangers again, Rihaan and Naina take a journey of a lifetime, where they not only discover each other but also discover hidden parts of themselves. The plot seems simple and straightforward in the beginning, but then the author introduces certain twists in the novel that elevates it to a higher level than just a romance or just a simple chic-lit. I felt that the beginning was a bit rushed, specially the part with Deepika and I would have loved to have seen more of their online matrimonial site courtship. Once Naina is introduced, the pace settles down to a leisurely one. The author has done a great job of setting up the two characters and narrating their story to us in a way that is entertaining and captivating. I loved the doses of humour infused into the story that kept things light. It was an entertaining read and I will be on the lookout for more from this author.

I was intrigued and knew I had to read the book. The cover is also good but it is the blurb that catches your attention.Being the first book by the author that I have read, I had no preconceived notions and expectations from her and so, was surprised when I started loving the story right from the start. The prologue is beautifully arranged to give the reader an initial jolt and raise his interest level which only keeps increasing as the story unfolds.Simi's writing style is balanced, engaging and I could see that she had done her research when talking about the medical procedures, the lifestyle of Indian doctors working abroad and the lives of NRI Indians in a foreign land. With the usual spicy ingredients of an overbearing and over dramatic mother to the seemingly henpecked and cool father to a protective and understanding sibling to the harassed and desperately-trying-to-save-his-independence, hero; everything was sketched admirably.Initially, I could not fully connect with the reasons given by the heroine for her actions by which she became The Accidental Wife and I thought "How can such an intelligent woman be such a fool?" but then later, I stopped caring because I was more engrossed in the intense romance and emotions developing between the protagonists. What started out as a predictable read soon became a totally unexpected story that had me hooked and glued to my seat all through. I kept rooting for these two and praying that nothing happened to stop their happily-ever-after.An intense, emotionally engaging and a solid story, I absolutely loved The Accidental Wife by Simi K. Rao and give it 4.5 out of 5. Strongly recommended to everyone, I am sure you will enjoy reading it. Simi is a talented writer and I will be checking out her other works in the future. This review is also available on my blog Njkinny's World of Books & Stuff
