Childbirth is more than an event that makes a woman a mother. This journey was designed to be a spiritual milestone that draws every woman’s heart back to the only Deliverer. “Angie Tolpin has honored all of us by giving the world a book that guides, inspires, explores and reconsiders that there is a Grand Design in childbirth. Redeeming Childbirth honors God’s Word and speaks truth that families can and should remember His presence in the birth room.” ~Barbara Harper, RN, CLD, CCE, Founder of Waterbirth International and author of Gentle Birth Choices “Angie casts a beautiful vision for making Christ the center of your pregnancy and childbirth. Shedding light on areas of frequent idolatry in our own birth plans, Angie calls out the disunity amongst Christian sisters over birth methods. Through her own birth stories and those of others, Angie shows how God can be glorified in hospital rooms and birthing centers as well as home-births. ~Gretchen Louise, editor at Young Ladies Christian Fellowship “Redeeming Childbirth is a much-needed blessing for families and churches. I long for the day when I can buy a stack of this book, ready to bless each new expectant mother with what she really needs: encouragement from a sweet friend, spiritual wisdom, and guidance to trust in God.“ ~Ann Dunagan, Co-founder of Harvest Ministry, Director of Daring Daughters, Author of The Mission Minded Family and The Mission Minded Child

Tolpin is honest, humble, and inspiring as she writes about her various birth experiences. I often would read a section and immediately pass it over to my husband so that he too could experience the powerful stories. She constantly directs attention to the spiritual potential for childbirth, which is refreshing and unique. This aim, however, is accomplished in about two chapters, and then the rest gets repetitive. It feels as if a publisher asked her to expand the word count to make it hefty in the hand, and so she circles back to her main points and continues ruminating on ideas that have already been clearly communicated. There is very little scientific/biological information about birth, which is admittedly not the focus of the book, but I feel Debra Evans' book does a better job of blending reliable, authoritative citations with spiritual perspective. Also, a warning to the egalitarians out there: There are a few irksome quotes about asking your husband to explain theological concepts to you. As a graduate theology student, I had to laugh at the presumption. It was that or throw the book across the room, and I'm working on my temper.

The message about unity and encouragement no matter what type of birth experience you had was so wonderful. Having not experienced a completely natural birth, I felt like somehow I failed or missed out on an amazing experience, but I know especially after reading this book that is not true, I did have that amazing experience with the birth of all my children and it is one of God's greatest blessings!

The Christian Childbirth Book the Entire Church Should Read By Deltra T.R James I am thanking God for this book and thankful the author answered the call he made to her heart to write it. From its beginning, it is obvious that she is passionate about one thing - Christ centered births. Not hospital births, not home births, just births where God is invited into that birthing room. She experienced this and wants her sisters in Christ to as well. It's true, women judge each other all the time because of their choices. How many times have you resisted sharing an experience because of what others might say? Be honest with yourself and you might recall a time when you may have made another woman feel badly about her own choices. Sadly, the world's view and attitudes on many things have leaked into the church and that needs to change. It starts with you. This book challenges and I hope you are up for the challenge! I pray that changing our attitudes about pregnancy and childbirth would trickle down to other areas we women so often bash one another in motherhood, like staying at home vs working outside the home and the educational choices we make regarding our children. As a busy mother myself, I have a hard time finding the time to read many of the childbirth books on the market but I feel that Angie has produced one that is exactly what I was looking for. There are a variety of others, but they don't cover all that this book does. Many are even spirtual, but they focus on drawing from your own "womanly strength", not God's. This book is for Christ following moms, whether they dance through pregnancy or spend most of it in the bathroom or bed. It encourages throughout pregnancy and shares encouragement for your birth and beyond. It challenges expectant mothers to view the blessings having a child can bring to them, their marriage, and the world instead of seeing the cost of having a child. It challenges the entire church to come alongside those women. Truly, this book would make a wonderful addition to church libraries (and a magnificent gift for baby showers).I'm grateful this book has come along at a time in my life where I am right there, able to benefit from it as an expectant mother. I'm ready to invite God into my birthing experience, something I've never done before. Still, even if you are done having children, trying to conceive, a single sister, a father to be, a labor support person, this book is well worth reading and will equip you to better serve, empathize with, and encourage expectant women.
