I've had this book for years bought from B&N By Hakudoushinumber9 okay so i bought this book from Barnes n Noble a while back. and i loved it.thing is, it's full of nouns. (hence being docked a star) there are SOME verbs in here and SOME adjectives but none enough to be good on it's own.i have a philosophy that learning the verbs and the words that modify other words FIRST is key. you can always ask for the name of an object it's the everything you want to learn. there are SOME phrases and explanations for SOME things that give SOME scenarios but not too many. Nouns are the focus in this book SO BEWAREbut this is good for when you're wanting to label things around the house and call them by their chinese name. I use it alot when i write out shopping lists (i've had the book for a good five years and ive used the food section mercilessly the pages are falling out from overuse :p)while with SOME foods they have are chinese foods, there aren't too many strictly chinese items. and there aren't too many non-modern things for this to be used in the more rural areas should you go to China. ELECTRIC Stove and GAS Stove and WOOD BURNING Stove are three different things in chinese and that's not in here.(as all are still used depending on where you go and is good to differentiate between the three) (also reason for docked star)i'm not going to say that this book will not be an asset to you, it's good IN CONJUNCTION with other grammar books. as a stand alone book it's good for house labling

It teaches you every word under the sun.They have everything from body parts to rocks; fish to stars. With each picture the english, hanzi, and pinyin names are given. The book is also compact and relatively light weight. This is a perfect visual dictionary for every mandarin chinese language learner.
