Art, not crafts, for children By Spark If you are fed up with classroom projects that hand out pre-cut shapes and ask children to paste them one by one so that everyone creates a reindeer, then this is your book.If you've been trying, politely, to explain what teaching children art looks like (not do-whatever-its-all-art with paint and brushes, not clever color-by-number crafts) then bring this book along. Each two-page spread is a single art lesson teaching a different aspect of drawing with basic materials. The results won't be cute or fit on the fridge -- but your first lesson with the violin, was it worth recording for posterity? Their brains will be challenged and out of that art will emerge.Interestingly, the photos show kids working on a gym floor, without desks. This would give them room for larger paper and make clean up easy.

As an art teacher, I would highly recommend it for the classroom. As a parent, I would highly recommend it for anyone!
