3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. A Great Book for Mexican Coin Collectors By Theodore R. If you are interested in modern Mexican coins, this book is a wonderful reference. It focuses on coins minted since the reform of 1905 through the reform of 1992 to 2013. Mintage dates and data, composition, size, and descriptions of the obverse and reverse are given for each coin type by denomination. The history of people, places, and events depicted on the coins are given as sidebars. The coins described include both circulating and commemorative issues, as well as bullion issues. If you are a collector of Mexican coins, you'll want this well written and beautifully illustrated book.

At the same time an easy read for the non-scholar/academic. Outstanding photographs, high quality paper and binding. A must read for any collector and/or researcher of Mexican coins. Your library would be incomplete without this volume!! Would highly recommend purchasing from this vendor.Dr. Ronald D. Swan.

There's a big emphasis on modern commemoratives, bullion, and other recent special issues. For absolute newcomers to Mexican history, there are sidebars explaining the symbols and historical figures that appear on Mexican coins. The book also includes suggested pricing for all of the issues. Experienced collectors are rightly skeptical of price guides, but it's still nice to have any alternative to the Krause catalog. There are some limitations. If you're not especially interested in bullion or in the latest mint products, you may be disappointed to find that the period between the last two coinage reforms (that is, 1905 to 1992) is covered in only 80 pages, out of well over 400. By a very large margin, this is a book about what might be called "collector products" of the Casa de Moneda.Collectors of U.S. coins can often find numerous books written about just a single series - they're used to knowing the political reasons why a particular coin was issued, who designed it, how the public reacted to it, why certain years are better struck than others, and so on. Collectors of 20th century Mexican coins will have to continue to wait for that kind of information. It wouldn't be fair to fault the Baileys for not providing it here; this book is a great first contribution to a field that's nearly empty at the moment.
