39 of 39 people found the following review helpful. Best SIFT resource I found By BioHawk7 I wanted to leave a comment because when I was looking for SIFT study materials I did not find much online. I heard that this test was designed so that you could not prepare for it. This is untrue to an extent. I do have a background in science/math (BA in biology), so I did take physics I & II and math courses through calculus II... But I am NOT an engineer nor am I that talented at physics. I ended up scoring a 69, which is ~97th percentile (mean=50, SD=10). I wanted to share what I did to study in hopes that it will help someone like myself who was frustrated with the lack of resources. Educate yourself on Bernoulli's principle, Newton's three laws, and the Venturi effect (and understand how they affect helicopter aerodynamics). Read as much of this SIFT study exam as you have time for. Work the most on your weaknesses (mine were the Army Aviation Information and Mechanical Comprehension sections). Take every exam in this study guide and make flash cards for the questions you missed. The tips in the Hidden Figures and Spatial Apperception sections were extremely helpful and I believe that I was able to get every question correct on the exam as a result. I did notice on the exam that there were several questions in the Army Aviation Information section related to FAA guidelines... I had to guess on them but I was told after the exam by other test takers that the FAA guideline docs are available free online and are another great resource for learning. One more thing: watch YouTube videos on all this stuff!! I HIGHLY recommend watching the first three lectures of the following online course: "Mod-01 Lec-01 Introduction to Helicopter Aerodynamics and Dynamics." I learned so much about helicopter components and aerodynamics just by watching. Hope this helps someone else! -Diana

By Jason First of all, I got a 76 on the test and studied for about 2 months straight because things kept delaying my test date, but since you can only take this test once (unless you fail), it might be a good idea to study that much too. I used this study guide along with the flight aptitude tests for dummies book, and they both helped me so I'll compare this one to that book a little. With both books, the simple drawings and hidden figures parts were pretty close to what the sections were like on the test, and the more practice on hidden figures the better. Both books were not very helpful with the aviation information portion, because there's so much information that a study guide can't hold it all, so I suggest reading the FAA helicopter flying handbook as well as FM 3-04.203 (fundamentals of flight) to prepare for that part, however a lot of the questions that I knew were because I already have an aviation MOS, not because I studied those publications. They were both the same when it came to spatial apperception as well, but this book's reading comprehension questions were much closer to the actual SIFT questions than the "for dummies" book was, so definitely study that portion because they're very different. When it comes to math however, the "for dummies" book was closer to what the actual test was like, but both books were pretty close with the mechanical comprehension part. Overall, I think this book is definitely worth it to help you study for the test.
19 of 20 people found the following review helpful. Excellent Study Guide By Seth Thompson Just took the SIFT today and scored a 74. I studied this book for about 2 weeks along with the FM and FAA manual that everyone else recommends. Since this is the only study guide that currently supports the SIFT it's pretty much a must have item, if for no other reason the formatting in this guide is exactly as laid out on the SIFT. I thought a few of the sections in this guide were harder than the actual test which is exactly what you want in a study guide. Buy with confidence.
