Review [This book] features nearly 50 classic sports and race cars from the 20th century. The book, done in collaboration with auction house Bonhams, starts with a 1902 De Dietrich, which had a four-seater body that could be converted to a racing two-seater, and ends with a 1997 McLaren F1 GTR, which has gold insulating foil around the engine bay to ensure optimal heat containment and can hit 240 mph. By william c howieson This book is about as close as we mere mortals will get to the wonderful automobiles described - the "moneyed-class" can have the cars but we can see the images. Thanks are due to Bonhams auctioneers for sponsoring this book and I would challenge other auction houses to do likewise. Most of the cars described are "creme-de-la-creme" and as noted in the text were sold recently by Bonhams for world's highest sale price for individual marque or model which gives the reader some idea of the esteem felt for these wonderful cars by their new owners.I would love to see other "top class" books describing further autos sold by the main auction houses.

I had read about this book on a blog I follow and the blogger had a lot of positive things to say about it. The only downside is that I was expecting to see more sportscars included but there are more old, classic cars in the book. So it's not as youthful as I was hoping if that makes sense. It's more historical than sporty.

I had the opportunity to thumb through a copy of this book at my in-laws and my interest was definitely piqued. I didn't have the time required to consume it cover to cover, but enough to get a sense that Mr Zaugg skillfully writes to the interest of the "average Joe" (such as myself) and to the educated connoisseur of automobile history. I hope that the inevitable success of this book opens the door for a Motorcycle follow up. Bravo
