Splendid and Luminous By Julie Clayton Although as a book Experiencing Spirituality is something one reads, it is really more like a vessel that carries you along a river of human experience to touch many shores of spiritual wisdom. At each shore one pauses and drinks deeply of the inquiry and grace awakened, through tales recounted from great traditions of many ages and cultures. More than just passing on stories, however, authors Ernest Kurtz and Katherine Ketcham invite readers into a new way of seeing, through experience, which is the inherent gift of story. As guides for the passage they provide an equally fluid and rich narrative of context that brings into focus the many facets of spirituality—such as wonder, awe, community, forgiveness, virtue, sin, and even humor—which frame the chapters, and which this abundant collection of rich and varied stories points to.If one can have too much of a good thing, reading this book in one sitting might fit that description, so taking your time and savoring it with an “open mind that contemplates rather than calculates” is highly recommended. This book is, quite simply, splendid and luminous, touching mind and heart in the most exquisite way imaginable.

Ferraz At this time of my life, may I call brothers and sisters:This book brought light - not where there was darkness, yet perhaps doubt and emptynessThrough humble stories and simple examples, our gift minded authors open doors and castle gates so we, after the 60's, may find some peace in living and accepting with truth. An astounding mea-culpa exercise, an enlightment, a must readThank youIt did not make me cry, but brought me peace and the certainty that I may have done it right, all along!

6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Highly Recommended By R. J. Morrison Fifteen-some years ago I picked up a copy of “The Spirituality of Imperfection.” Co-authored by Ernest Kurtz and Katherine Ketcham, it has been a favorite of mine ever since, a book I return to often for guidance and insight. This new offering, Experiencing Spirituality, Finding Meaning Through Storytelling, by the same team, has now joined the first on my shelf of favorite spiritual reads. In this book, in some ways similar to the first, they address spirituality, not directly by talking about it, but through a collection of wisdom stories sewn together with commentary to create a work that communicates the experience of spirituality. The author’s have divided the book into fifteen sections. Each section examines a single idea, such as community, forgiveness, memory, confusion, recovery and so much more. This is the kind of book that you can pick up and open to any page for something to contemplate at that moment, or go to a specific topic that you wish to explore. The commentary is masterful and enlightening, while allowing the stories to tell the story.Five stars and highly recommended reading.
