26 of 29 people found the following review helpful. Funny, inventive, liberating, fantastic read. By David I was given this book as a present. I would never have picked it up in a bookstore. I'm very happy with my retirement. I don't need anyone to tell me how to enjoy myself. I read a few pages. Then the whole book, then I read most of it to my wife in bed. It's glorious. Funny, encouraging, inventive. Somehow Stella convinced me that I could try art. I have always harboured a desire to make sculpture. Now I'm going to. I have five drawings already of things I want to make. Stella convinced me to take my desire seriously, but not myself as an artist. I don't care if my productions get into the Guggenheim or the Venice Biennale. They will express something about me that I want to look at objectively. I might even take up quilt making. (I'm very blokey, so that is a big step!) Great pictures. The chicken and the granny share first prize.Three cheers for Stella. Five stars for her book.Warning: not a good book for anyone who takes him/herself too seriously or thinks they are still engaged in work that will change the world.

Great ideas for post-retirement fun By LeopoldBloom The what-to-do-after-retirement genre is one of the most lively genres out there, and Stella Rheingold has contributed an excellent little book toward it. From the crazy old lady smoking a stogie to the warning that the information in the book could lead to death and injury, 101 Fun Things to do in Retirement: An Irreverent, Outrageous & Funny Guide to Life After Work is quirky, entertaining, and downright useful. In a sense, Rheingold’s book is more than just a post-retirement idea guide; it is a book of possibilities for people of any age who are interested in breaking away from the narrow interests of conventional societies and testing their skills in creative and adrenaline-inducing ways. There are many ideas in the small book and nearly all of them are excellent. The author’s addition of hilarious photographs—nearly one on every other page—and the professional layout adds to the experience and shows a dedicated interest in the topic. I was particularly amused by suggestions of “joining the medievalists” and eating internationally (with an image of a bull’s penis). When I wasn’t chuckling, I was writing down ideas for vacations and for later in life. A very good read.

Stella has a hilarious take on the 'best' years of our lives....fearless and imaginative. I don't think I am going to try them all, but it is a shot in the arm for any of us who have greeted this time of our lives with a mild dread. Highly recommended for any of us who take ourselves too seriously; in fact, just highly recommended.
