Review Now in a revised second edition, The Scholarship &: Financial Aid Solution lives up to its title as a practical guide to identifying and properly applying for different types of scholarships. Chapters cover how to search for scholarship applications, guidelines for filling out applications or writing essays, preparing for interviews, avoiding scholarship scams, and more. Some (scammers) will offer a free workshop. The workshop is free, but the meeting they setup afterward will not be. Parents and students ask for my advice about whether or not they should go. I tell them what I have just told you, and to attend if they want to but never pay money for anything... These scam companies always seem to rent a room at reputable places, which makes them seem trustworthy. An excellent reference and resource for anyone confronting rising college and tuition costs, highly recommended. --The Money/Finance Shelf - Midwest Book Review

About the Author I have given countless lectures and workshops, three to four weekly private meetings with parents and students, and have been interviewed on several local radio stations concerning scholarships. I have also received several awards for my work with scholarships as well. I received the County School Employee of the Year in 2000 and 2004, the first person to ever receive this honor twice and Vanguard High School s Employee of the Year twice. I have been honored by being the District Teacher of the Year for the VFW in 2000, 2004, the post winner for 2007, and currently selected as the District winner for 2008, and was a Semi-Finalist for the Junior League s Three Who Care Award in 2007. I am also in Who s Who Among America s Teachers (multiple times), Cambridge Who s Who Among Professional and Executive Women-2007/2008 (Honors Edition) Emerald s Who s Who for Executives and Professionals-2007, Biltmore Who s Who of Professional and Executive Women-2007, Princeton Premier Business Leaders and Professionals-2007, and Madison Who s Who Among Executives and Professionals-2007/2008. I have always loved writing and telling stories to my children so I thought that my first attempt at a novel would be fairly tales. Instead, one day I sat down and started to write about scholarships, a subject that I love working with and have researched and implemented with accomplishment, a total hands on approach to winning scholarships. After being asked by a multitude of other schools counselors and personnel on how my students have been so accomplished at obtaining scholarships, I decided to share this secret of achievement by writing it down and putting it into a book. I believe that with my hands on approach, that this book will be able to assist a multitude of students and parents in finding, applying, and winning scholarships to make college more than just a dream."

It's not bad, but definitely not what I expected. I expected information on specific scholarships and more information on how to find them. I was also expecting the 'Shortcuts, Tricks, and Tips on "How to go to College for next to Nothing. None of those things are emphasized in this book. And...there are several errors and typos.

By Nardin Derias The scholarship methods outlined in Mrs.Lipphardt’s book immensely helped me out in high school and I felt encouraged to apply for many opportunities due to her advice. This book stressed to me the importance of starting to apply for scholarships early on, especially the local ones. I applied for several of these, where the competition was at a minimum and the chances of receiving them were much higher. She delves into the proper way to fill out applications and to apply for as many scholarships as possible. My first semester tuition was basically covered by the money I won from local scholarships and without the guidance of this book and the methods described in it, I don’t know if I would have been pushed to start early and work hard on those scholarships until graduation. I would not have obtained as much scholarship money if I had not followed her suggestions purely because it can get overwhelming; there are so many scholarships out there that we as students tend to not know how to go about applying. Knowing how to approach the scholarship process was key and this book did just that. As a college student now, I am truly starting to realize how critical scholarships are to paying for school and it was great having this book as a guide.

However, when you have a scholarship adviser like Debra Lipphardt putting all the information need in one single book it is nearly impossible to ignore scholarship opportunities. Starting from the descriptive formula about how to create an outstanding resume to the ins and outs of conquering scholarship applications it became easier to take advantage of easy money. While some applications are made online, her method of creating a standard essay and resume that could be used for almost every scholarship, made the process entirely more convenient and less tedious. Throughout my senior year in high school, her book gave me that extra motivation to complete all scholarship I was eligible for by simplifying the procedures that were necessary. Even when deadlines were approaching within a few days, her mechanisms made it so that it was never too late. After some would try to find every excuse to bail on a scholarship opportunities, Lipphardt had the answers to all questions imaginable. Without the unique system provided by the author I wouldn’t even know where to begin when seeking after scholarships.
