Sullins Warlock is a satisfying continuation of the storytelling begun in Warrior. The characters from book one return, and fascinating new characters are introduced as well. Lirak must come to terms with new challenges and dangers, while his friends grow in their own ways. The relationships between characters matures, sometimes leading to conflict. We even get a greater sense of the conflicts raging among the gods, and start to sense a bigger picture... something epic driving the events in the book series.I particularly enjoyed the depth of the worldbuilding in Warlock, and the unique flavor present in the history we begin to discover. Five enthusiastic stars, can't wait for the next installment!
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Wonderful setting, and an awesome final battle By Steve R I really liked the previous book in this series, Warrior. But I loved Warlock. Where Warrior was a 'hero's journey' story in a relatively small geographic area in the story's world, Warlock takes the hero out into the wider world which allows the epic fantasy elements--dragons, magic, alliances between kingdoms--to really come to the fore.In short, Warlock is where the War Chronicles start to earn their "epic fantasy" stripes.One aspect of Warlock that I appreciated, which I thought was not quite as strong in Warrior, was a feel for the settings. In Warlock the locations are more realized--we can really hear, smell, and see the world that Lirak (the hero) must come to grips with. E.g. "Birds and insects twittered and chattered ... Lirak welcomed the unexpected smell of dirt and trees. He breathed deeply, pulling the scent of earth and growing into his lungs ... Granite columns spaced around the edge of the room held a second level where people sat in conversation or relaxed on wooden benches."Wonderful setting, and an awesome final battle, make Warlock a great read. I'm looking forward to the final book.

By George K Pettway My favorite part of any novel is the sense that there is a larger world unfolding simultaneously behind the scenes, alongside and occasionally trampling on top of the events you see. It is this sense that keeps me invested, interested, and guessing as I read. It's a smart trick, and Warlock has it in spades. It expands on the world of Warrior, and not just in a "bigger is better" way. It just made me happy to read.I would unreservedly recommend this book to anyone I knew.
