Nobody has ever escaped from the Iceberg. It's a privately-owned prison deep in the Mojave Desert, staffed by brutal guards and surrounded by desolate wasteland. Inside the walls, gangs and predators are constant threats; outside the walls, there's nothing but a sniper's bullet or a slow death in the desert heat.

Framed for murder and snared in a deadly curse, Daniel Faust lands behind bars with a target on his back. Worse, with Faust out of the picture, the Chicago mob is making its bid for control of Las Vegas. If he can't engineer his escape in time to stop them, none of his friends are safe. Then there's the matter of the warden's dark secret, the one that's filling up the prison morgue with body bags.

Faust has been caged, buried, cut off from his allies and his magic. His enemies think they've won. They're about to learn, the hard way, that this is one sorcerer who always has a trick up his sleeve.

Nobody has ever escaped from the Iceberg. But the Iceberg has never had a prisoner like Daniel Faust.

He is exactly the same as he was at the end of book one. I would love to see him grow not just as a person but especially with his magic. Overall I really enjoy the series but can we move him up a weight class please?

I read the first 4 books in less than 48 hours, and now I already finished this one. I love the character of Faust and his Scooby gang of sidekicks. I just wish they were in the book more. I have a tendency with his books to skip to the parts with Caitlin it, read those first, then I go back and read the book from start to finish. I am hoping book 6 has more of Faust, and his friends from page 1. This series reminds me of The TV show 'Grim' or 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' where I care more about the characters and not so much the monsters of the week. Caitlin is such rich character, I wish the author would give us more interaction between her and Faust. How can a female demon character feel so human? There is a great chemistry between her Faust, she can kill him in seconds, he knows this and accepts her superiority, her lengthy list of lovers, her age, her demonic nature, and never tries to change her. Yet Faust never appears wimpy for loving her unconditionally. There is something so refreshing and modern about their love that I could just read a book about them without aIl the action. I am not sure if demonic noir is a literary genre yet-one could use that term for this series. Do you like strong female characters? You will love this series. He is writing a spin-off series about Harmony Black. If you like regular mysteries, you will enjoy this series. If you enjoy film noir, and hard boiled detective series, you will want to read these books. Someone should give him a medal for not having a love triangle in the series-which almost every e-book seems to have nowadays. Start with the first book, you will not be disappointed. Meanwhile if anyone knows a spell to put on the author to make him write faster, please use it. I would appreciate it.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. This series is awesome! By Amazon Customer I read a couple hundred books a year. Enjoy a lot of different authors and styles. But I gotta tell you, THIS SERIES IS BLOODY AWESOME!! I was totally hooked and binge read them, one after the other, ordering the next book on Kindle as soon as I finished the last. Faust might be compared to Jim Butcher's Dresden, but while Dresden is often an outsider, he's always a hero.. whereas Daniel Faust, puts the anti in the word anti-hero. He's a villain, true, yet the kind of villain we can root for. And, like all heroes, anti or otherwise, he lives by a code... mostly, or a least so far as he can. Can't say he's always true to himself, because he can be pushed into doing things he finds repugnant, but he is a rock and unshakeable in his loyalty to family and friends. Faust will step up and take on overwhelming odds when no one else can or will... so this series delivers non-stop action as the reader takes a ride with a trickster with balls as big as brass cannon balls, emboldened by the firm belief that nothing is impossible.
