This is a very marvelous gem of a read I found here. Very moving storylines and I couldn't help but get attached to so many of the characters within them. Action at every turn kept things very intriguing for me, as each tale passed, the adventure only got more gripping, and I got more and more hooked. There are even some moments that made me laugh quite a bit. I NEED to read some of these full stories. I have always been a fan of Ender King's work, and I hope that he continues to write for a very long time. I cannot wait for more. Nicely done!

This book will introduce all sorts of Minecraft creatures, big and small, terrifying and mysterious. Younger kids will delight in these short tales and parents will get a kick out of the creative way the author gets kids into reading through one of the world’s most popular games. Nicely done, Ender King.

The main character was really cool and there were tons of lines that cracked me up. The author does a terrific job with the plot and character development. Well written book and easy to read.

I enjoyed how Bear explored the ramifications of The Way's existence and how mundane humans and future humans deal with it. It didn't have the same awe factor as Eon, though. This is probably because we've already been spoiled to the big reveal, about the nature of The Stone, The Way and the people aboard it. It was fresh when I first read it. My take may also be tempered by the fact that I first read Eon in high school and I didn't come to read Eternity until 15+ years later.In any case, I did enjoy it. Bear spends more time exploring the characters he introduced in Eon, which was very welcome. His first foray with these characters was a little flat, but Eternity makes up for it by giving them dimensions and nuances.If you read Eon, you should definitely read Eternity.

By A Customer Eternity is one of those rare examples of contemporary science fiction that sustains interest as both a story and as science fiction. Its ancestors include the best works by Isaac Asimov and Arthur C. Clarke. If you wander through the science fiction section of most book stores,an avalanche of second rate works penned under the inspiration of television or movie sequels dominates the racks. Bear's Eternity is a superb antidote to the latest Trekkie or Star Wars drivel. The story commands your interest from start to finish and raises the same kind of profound questions Clarke addressed in Childhood's End. When an author dares to be profound or ask ultimate questions in science fiction, he or she must be good or the effect is ludicrous, painful, and pathetic. Bear's work is insightful, compelling, and great fun.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Fairly bland in comparison By Evan Sparks I quite enjoyed the first book in the series, a thrilling tale of geometry and adventure. However, this second novel suffers from being both predictable and plodding. It seems to me that Mr. Bear would have rather been writing a prequel, as quite a few of the prominent events in this novel are essentially retreats of events that took place prior to the first book. The most used adjective in the book - describing someone's expression, no less - is "bland". And that about sums it up. Bland.It suffers from an over-reliance on 'deus ex machinae' to advance the plot, and also what I can only call fan-service in the frequent deaths and resurrections of favourite characters. The saccharine-sweet happy ending tries to tie up far too many threads than it needs to and as a result comes across as forced.Others have claimed that this is a thinking book, not an action novel, that it is about the characters. To me it seems that Bear is just not very good at writing characters, and none here stray very far from the baseline. Some seem for all intents superfluous to the text, as does most of the section on Gaia. It is well written enough but adds little to the text.

Here's my points of view about this book and will tell you at the end if you should buy it:The Good: just think of it as the first aid equivalent to step 2 CK, it covers all the main subject tested from surgery, medicine, GYNOB, paediatrics, psychology and epidemiology (all in one Book). Its a good source for review if you're close to test day and have no time to work through books. And it highlights vital informations you might have missed while preparing.The Bad: we all know you can't fit medical school in one book, right!! So you'll find some missing subjects on your way and this is way I don't recommend it as the only study material and just keep it as a review book( unless you're not looking for a high score). I studied Kaplan books as primary source and if you're good in making notes and creating management algorithms then you don't need it.So for me the bottom line is;I consider it a review and it does help pulling the strings as one book show before exam day but for me it is NEVER the only source to prepare.Here, hope this settle the case for you

The second in the series, Patchwork People twists the knife even further when it’s released at the end of September 2014. And not to be overlooked is her YA teen detective series, penned as Lily Stuart – THE teen detective. Irreverent, blunt, funny and vulnerable, Lily’s diary tells the tale of her mother’s internet dating spree – and the murderer she meets, interspersed between daily life as a teenager, with all its bitching, banter, and vulnerability. Webs is also due to be released in September 2014. So why not stick to just one name and one genre? ‘Variety is the spice of life,’ she replies. ‘And I have all these ideas – they have to come out somehow!’ Debrah’s past careers have spanned two businesses, teaching, running business networking for the University of Winchester and social event management. A fantastical dream like story By H.Taylor Falling Awake is most certainly a book that gets you page turning as quickly as you can to see where this fascinating adventure ends. We are introduced to Mary Parker who comes across a magic book that consequently changes her entire life. Mary is in a very dark depressed state after the death of her Mother but from reading the magic book she finds her life and herself are transformed into a beauty. The reader sees that as she reads this book she begins to dream. With this new found beauty Mary meets Joe, the son of a factory owner who gambles it. Joe and Mary fall madly in love and find themselves in a secret sexual love triangle. Joe proposes to Mary and they have to have a shot gun wedding due to them discovering Mary is expecting a baby.But this book has several twists and turns as well as a couple of tragedies. Joe worries his wife is going mad by the things she recalls but the part he can't understand is if it's not true why does he have the same memories.I thought it might become a little busy and confusing with so much happening but I was happy to find it worked well and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I hadn't read any by Debrah Martin before but I look forward to reading her other work. Recommended highly!

Falling Awake by Debrah Martin is a beautiful work of fiction that combines both the conscious and unconscious thoughts and actions of the main character Mary Parker. Mary finds herself in a state of deep depression following the death of her mother. She finds a magical book that awakens such unconscious thoughts within her that at times she has trouble distinguishing between reality and fantasy. This problem reminded me of an incident that happened to me several years ago. I was reading a series of books that combined reality and fantasy. I had fallen asleep reading, and deep in the night the telephone rang. My wife answered it, and tried to awaken me. For several minutes, I thought I was in the alternate reality that I had been reading about. Finally, I came to myself and was able to talk.Martin is surely a multi talented writer, and that is easily seen by looking at the list of books she has authored. While reading this book full of well developed characters, I wondered, who hasn't found that magical book that blurs the lines between reality and fantasy? If you haven't found it yet, 'Falling Awake' may be the one that 'awakens' that feeling in you.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A great paranormal romance! By Maria First of all, the title- Falling Awake- amazed me and made me want to read it as soon as possible. I love plays upon words and this was not the exception. Morever, the cover gave me a peaceful and pleasant sensation.Mary Parker is a woman sunk in depression as a result of the loss of her mother, but a magical book she finds changes her whole life- she becomes alive again, and because she reads and dreams, she calls the book's quality falling awake. Strange things start to happen. Things start to change.The kind of paranormal touch given by the magic book adds mystery and makes the whole story more interesting. The plot development was good, and the develpment of the characters is rich and complete. By the time Joe meets Mary, from my point of view, the story has reached a peak, and then when she loses her pregnancy everything starts going down. Of this sad event, I liked that it doesn't portray the classic fairytale where everything goes perfectly well.I recommend this read to those who like romance story with a little bit of paranormal and sci-fi.

Good general introduction to JavaScript promises and other ES6 language features By Jim Fathman JavaScript is evolving so we can write asynchronous programs that look more like synchronous programs. Promises and generators have arrived with ES6, and async and await keywords are coming in ES7. It will take time for JavaScript idiom to coalesce around promises, and more time for essential libraries to adapt or be replaced by modern alternatives. During these changes, we will need several books to help us understand and properly apply these new JavaScript language features.This book about JavaScript promises is more booklet than book, but it is very worthwhile. It is terse and exacting. If you already know JavaScript and you want to learn about promises (and generators, and iterators), you can read this book and try the exercises in a couple of sittings and come away with a good appreciation for what promises adds to JavaScript.I have wondered whether the Bluebird promise library will retain purpose after ES6 is widely deployed. This book bases several examples on Bluebird, and the answer seems to be that Bluebird provides useful extended features that will continue to make it a valid choice above and beyond the basic promise features now found in JavaScript itself.We need more books on promises to augment this book. In particular, I would like to spend time in a book with exercises and examples that build on basic concepts and explore when and how to use Bluebird for Node.js server side programming. But as a general introduction to promises that will help us get started, I highly recommend this book.

Concise, Well-written, and Packed with great info By Nishanth The book offers an in-depth analysis of the JavaScript event loop before delving into the realms of async programming, which should serve as a great introduction for beginners and a good refresher for advanced JavaScript programmers. Daniel also does an amazing job discussing recommended design patterns: The book also has an entire chapter dedicated to explaining parallel, series, waterfall, and more async control flows with easy-to-follow examples, that can be used as reference material in the future. The book also covers the most important parts of Bluebird and jQuery Promises, explaining the nuances with the mark of a person with thorough knowledge on the topic. The book definitely will give you a solid foundation on Promises and async JavaScript. All of this in less than about 100 pages! The book is packed with info and is a must-read. Highly recommend.
