I do not really consider this a "book" so the criteria I use doesn't quite apply- but it is excellent for several different reasons. I currently teach a multiage classroom of 1st and 2nd graders with varying ability levels from non readers to students reading at or above a 5th grade level.My rating: 5 starsWhat or if I would use this for: I like that it is phonics based, with the correct symbols. One year, I taught a curriculum that had the students use the symbols- and it really helped them become more fluent. So I would use this book for those-to teach some of phonemic symbols. But I also like it for the variety of the pictures and vocabulary. I teach a lot of English Language Learners- THIS IS GOING TO BE A GREAT RESOURCE when I need to talk about any of the items in the book. Students really need that visual representation, especially english language learners.What my students thought: I actually didn't show my students this- but I plan to when I teach small groups, when needed for certain phonemic sounds and corresponding letters with the visual.Quality of photographs or illustrations: The illustrations are cute. A little too babyish for 2nd grade.Depth of knowledge: There really isn't any depth of knowledge, it is just teaching students some basic phonics rules.Text quality: I like that each word has the sound under it.To make this book even better, I would recommend adding A LOT more- maybe this is just a sample the author is throwing out for some reviews? I'm not sure. But I would also change the title. You can't have 2nd grade with Baby. The two don't go together. The baby wouldn't mind- but the second grader would!!!╰☆╮ஐ I did get a discount for my honest review of this Grade 2 Phonics: Better Baby Speakers: 2nd Grade Books Reading Aloud Edition (Children's Beginner Readers Books) Kindle Edition I test all products before reviewing them. It is defined as the branch of linguistics that focuses on sounds and human speech. Phonics helps children learn to spell words by listening well to how they are pronounced. The goal of this book is to make it easy for children to recognize and associate the sounds of the letters to their corresponding alphabet. I just read this phonics book with my 5 year old. She is still learning to read but can read simple words and sentences. I love anything phonics, as it lays the foundation for her learning much larger words and reading bigger sentences and paragraphs. She was able to read this entire book in about 3 minutes. Each page contains one sight words, with a picture above the word. Under the word, is how to sound it out. This is a good sight words book. It does work on the QU, Sch, SL, and SQU sounds , which I do believe is good for first and second graders as review. The only improvement I would make on this book, is putting the sight word on a different page than the picture , instead of having the picture right above it. Most kids, including mine, like to read the word by the picture and I just think this encourages the child to really try to sound the word out, versus looking at the picture and knowing what the word without sounding it out. It's still a good idea to include. This book is actually a useful one from Baby Professor, which is the first time I'm able to say that. There's some stuff I'd revise if I were in charge of the team that put this out, but overall it's not as much a disaster as the previous books published by this team. The graphics are great. However, there is NO CONTEXT WHATSOEVER for this book and its contents. Hence the confused review by one of the other reviewers who didn't understand why there are some backwards letters. That's how you spell things phonetically, that's why they have that. But the book should have explained this, as opposed to just throwing a bunch of words at you in the form of a book. Honestly, this book provides about as much utility as a deck of flash cards. So if you buy this, do some googling as to how to use phonetic flashcards. I'm sure there's some very nice guides to help you out. The picture to make it fun, but maybe just a separate page after they sound out the word. Overall this is a decent book of sight words. I am glad that I got a chance to read this book to my kids.I received this at a discount in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

I got this book for my six year old to help him start to get ready for his next year in school. I want to expose him to as many different subjects as possible. I try to read to them during the sporting events instead of them playing video games. The books in this series have wonderful pictures along with little facts that go along with them. The words are easy for readers that have been reading for a couple of years but if your child is too young for that this book is great to read to them! The book is written in plan terms that kids can understand. It’s a great way to introduce science facts to kids. Each book in this series introduced one particular aspect of science and portrays it in a way that makes kids want to learn more.This books pictures are very clear and easily recognizable. Each page has a picture of the word, the word itself, and then phonetic breakdown. I would recommend this book to anyone with kids who would like a jumpstart to their school year or need a little help during the year. It would also be a good refresher during the gap between grades.I liked the fact that this book is available in digital form.
